Jerry's preferred head coach

Honestly hard to say. He has his merits and detractions. Team manager and not a tacticion so he needs a really good staff. Not someone that would be a puppet, so you would probably get more push back on things than with Garrett and McCarthy.

It would be interesting how it plays out. In the short term, if he got quality OC and DC we would probably get back to to 2021-23 levels.
It's not hard to say because Jones is the GM. Nobody can overcome that.

Jerry will hire anyone willing to kiss his butt. Period.
Half measures avails us nothing. Is there any way we can run the Joneses out of town? They should get on their yacht and stay. That would make them happier.

He wants someone he has experience with and trusts, or a grizzled steady veteran coach. He doesnt hire anyone else.

Experience with:
  • Jimmy (college roommates and teammate)
  • Switzer (his old college coach)
  • Campo (former DC)
  • Garrett (former player)
Grizzled steady veteran coach:
  • Parcells
  • McCarthy
  • Wade
The ONLY time he ever departed from this strategy and went with the hot new assistant coach on a winning team that he had no history with was Chan Gailey. It was also the shortest head coaching stint in Cowboys history.

So you can put away the Shanahan tree, the latest greatest SB assistant coach, and probably the veteran coach too since Jerry just tried it again and Belichick is off the market now. The Deion talk is for real. Kellen Moore is a safe bet especially since Jethro just tied himself up with Dak and CeeDee’s contracts. And if Zimmer wasn’t so burned out, he would probably have a shot too. My money would be on a familiar face.
Excellent post.
Jerry has had a lot of shortcomings as GM.
His most glaring weakness is coaching hires, and knowing what to do as far as changes with them.
9.5 years of Garrett does not happen on any well run nfl team.

100% agree with the OP. Familiar will always beat out new and innovative.

I'm hoping for Deion, not because I think he's the guy to turn things around, but because of the entertainment value he will bring.

Moore will get us to the same place, but damn, how boring will that be.

I predict Moore, though. I called that in the thread announcing he had been hired as QB coach.

I don’t follow him 24/7 but I’ve never heard him as a coach break down X’s and O’s or explain his game plan. He just says we’re gonna dominate.

I've never heard McCarthy break down X's and O's either.

The biggest advantage of Deion is the expectation he will rock the boat.

KM is another yes man. Give me the guy who won't be bowled over by Jerry yet again.

Deion would be an instant prima donna grabbing all the attention. Giving post-game interviews wearing his stupid sunglasses (indoors) looking more like a hip hop mogul than a head coach of a football team. Hard pass.

In the dark horse would be the Seattle Seahawks ex coach the Seattle Seahawks ex coach coach pete carroll... And they're saying possibly he could be matched with maybe The Jets X head coach as the defensive coordinator etc,...Saleh?

That would be the grizzle veteran coach that's looking to get back in the NFL.

Yeah, it’s not like Neon would be putting together game plans or calling Offensive/Defensive plays.
If the next HC isn’t also the OC or DC, then their main job is to oversee all operations like the manager of a small business.

KM will be the Cowboys coach unless he says no. He is currently having his best year and won int he playoffs after Jerry let him go in favor of MM. This is after he foisted him into the QB and OC rooms for Garrett and MM. Jerry chose him then much like when he foisted Garrett on Phillips.

Writing is on the wall.

Kellen Moore is the easy money. Anyone else will be a suprise.
I think it depends on the outcome of their playoff run. If they lose spectacularly, I think he'll be looking for a job. Otherwise, I don't see him returning as a second choice to MM again after being fired the first time. Easy money in my mind will be Zimmer w/some cheap retread coordinators to surround him.

all I know playing games cost him opportunities to interview Johnson or Glenn till they are done

I think the chance to fail spectacularly from the Cowboys perspective sailed after the Eagles won a couple days ago.
