I don’t think these teams have been good enough to push all the chips to the center of the table. Signing a couple of big splash free agents wouldn’t have gotten them over the hump. There are still too many holes in the roster and too many resources being misallocated.

When Jerry does try to go all in, he evaluates players/positions so badly that it doesn't work.

Unfortunately three of ours are in the fifth round and two of the eagles are in the first round with them having the 10th overall pick.
Geez, how could anyone possibly think counting the number of draft picks has anything to do w/ anything. What matters is the picks in the first 2 rounds.

Why does it always take us 10 times longer to figure out what doesn't work then teams that actually contend for a championship.
How many years of eight and eight did we have to have with Jason Garrett before Jerry finally gave up on him as a coach.

How many years do we have to embarrass ourselves in the playoffs before we finally realize that we have to do a better job in free agency to compete.

I think we had at least three eight and eight seasons maybe a 9 and 7 with Garrett.

I mean do we have to have another unprecedented embarrassing play to end our season this coming year to make it three in a row before Jerry finally concedes that maybe enough is enough.

This was once a proud franchise the absolute class of the industry and now no matter what our regular season record is we are the laughing stock of the league at the end of the season with Jerry as our general manager
You already know that answer to your first question, but I'll say it anyway. A non-football GM who has no concept of the NFL game and what it takes to contend.

The NFL is recognized as an entertainment business. They can legally fix the outcome of a game. True or false.

He’s reluctant to go all in because the Cowboys have had stacked rosters go one and done in the playoffs.
When was the last time the Cowboys had a top 5 roster top to bottom in the NFL? Maybe 2007-08. The Cowboys have always been top heavy since the salary cap came into effect. Our team has been overrated when it comes to talent. Besides Parsons, CeeDee, and Diggs are any of our players really irreplaceable? With all do respect to Martin, Dak, Tyler and Pollard I will say no. We all know how talented the Eagles are but Washington is not far behind except for quarterback. The Giants have a stud defensive line and a big time left tackle. Let’s stop acting like the Cowboys are Chiefs. To be honest the 49ers are a more disappointing team. No Super Bowl wins with the best roster in the NFL the last 5 years. If they had the star on their helmets Their GM and coach would have been fired by the media.

the problem is that when you draft which most of the time they do is that a rookie unless he is very very good your on his second contract before you know it so with the salary cap being like it is you have developed a player or in most cases players that have to payed so like the position there in now where you have at least 4 players that eithier stay or go. so the problem to get to the super bowl is always at arms length so you sooner have to go for it or stay whetre you are and sooner or later it usually gets worse like having a qb thats a 49 dollar misery so your stuck,.

Having a top five roster is a matter of opinion. The Cowboys have had some very talented rosters since 07 and 08. Their biggest problem is they underachieve and have struggled to win critical games at home.

Due to major weaknesses in those rosters due to very poor player/team evaluation due to having a non-football guy in charge.

What teams underachieved? Losing to Brett Farve at Minnesota, losing to Rodgers twice and loaded Rams/49ers teams. The Cowboys play to their level. The issue is they never overachieve like the Giants/Eagles. I can’t remember the last time the Cowboys were Super Bowl favorites since 2007 coming into a season.

Our best teams since the 90s have underachieved. No way should the 07 team have gone one and done at home. Same for the 2016 team. The Cowboys were Super Bowl favorites entering the 2008 season. No one expected them to be as good as they were in 2007. No one was picking them for the Super Bowl prior to that season. However, most were picking them to rebound in 2008 and go to the Super Bowl, but they ended up missing the playoffs.

That and Jerry absolutely refuses to get us a dominant defensive tackle that can stop the run so we always struggle on defense against stopping the run and it cripples us in the playoffs

Almost like it is being done on purpose as if to spite all the fans that keep pointing out a glaring weakness that has persisted for more than a decade.

The odd thing is every DC who walks through the door seems OK with it. At least with McCarthy here, they have made attempts to address it. It's certainly not where we would like it to be but a night and day difference rom the Garrett/Marinelli debacle!!

The 07 team went one and done due to a very poor evaluation of the OL, which had been steadily declining. As usual, we weren't ready for what was inevitible. Jerry is such a poor judge of the NFL in general that he's incapable of noticing such an obvious problem.

This is true after all these years of just being complacent about it we finally recognized that we had a problem and made a half-assed attempt to address it in signing Jonathan hankins.

Just not sure why everyone else in the NFL understands the importance of stopping the run and addresses it as soon as possible while we go by way of Robin Hood's barn and continue to circle the wagons in a holding pattern refusing to use a first round draft pick on a defensive tackle.
Take our division rival for instance that made it to the super bowl they drafted Jordan Davis. I mean I'm not asking for a lot but I would just like to see an attempt made every 10 years on solving this problem

They gave up major resources to trade up for Jordan Davis. That is a smart franchise.

And somehow they still have two first round picks this year all while blasting by us and going to the super bowl it's unbelievable how bad our front office is out maneuvered every year

How should we take this as fans most of us have adjusted our expectations but I don't think any of us really planned on us never going to do enough to win a championship for fear of not being relevant for a couple years.

This is where we stand our owner and GM is not going to be active in free agency or aggressive enough to get us over the top he is very much satisfied with just making the playoffs and staying relevant.

I adjusted my expectations long ago knowing his limitations as a general manager but now it's even more than that it's not his lack of skill but it's his fear of staying relevant.
Worse yet he doesn't even really know the condition of the teams that he speaks about when comparing the eagles and the Rams One team really emptying the bucket and the other having plenty of first-round draft picks to continue to bolster their team.

When you're winning 12 games a season it should be a great time to be a Cowboys fan but when you know that that is the absolute ceiling with maybe a playoff win you can't help but feel despondent

We continue to soldier on we stay the course we root for the laundry but it's all an exercise and futility with an owner and GM that just won't do what's necessary and go the extra mile to get us over the top.
It’s extremely simple. Stop buying merchandise and stop going to games.
