Nothing about what Holley said changes my opinion about this move:

Blue is a backup RB...with potential to never start. Joe M. has starting potential.

If he is lacking professionalism and other soft skills - but performing awesome on the field - you don't expose that player! Especially since you gave up a 5th rounder to get him. If he is so unprofessional as to be a cancer or malcontent - ala Jeff George - then maybe you do it...but better damn sure know what you're doing.

For example, we all know GP was late for meetings and even half-assed a few games last year. Did anyone cut him? Yeah Pittsburgh wanted to but thought better. The most he got was a 1st drive benching. Obviously Milton is not GP, but the point stands...you don't expose a talented player unless he is EXTRAORDINARILY unprofessional.

I'm calling BS on all this...and that don't stand for Brian Schottenheimmer.

Agreed. But they also chose not to make Milton the backup QB and were willing to risk losing him to another team. However you choose to slice it, a message was sent - he still has a ways to go.

Nothing against Milton at all. But I don’t see how anyone can say this team didn’t send a message to him.

And in a league starved for even decent QB play, not a single other NFL team wanted him? That says something too X.

He was released Monday, most teams had made their final moves Sunday. Levis also not picked up by anyone, I believe he’s a better backup/starter than many of the others. Timing played a big part of it I believe. For $400k per year he’s well worth another year of learning the pro game. Dont see any downside at all.

I agree with you Rags. And I agree that Milton is seen differently than Blue.

But I did want to make the bigger point that when fans are “shocked” by certain cuts (like Milton) they forget that what we fans see in TC and PS games are not all that the coaches are looking at.

Being on time, commitment to conditioning, commitment to learning and growing in the film room and attention to details, how they interact with teammates and respond to coaching…all those are huge areas of evaluation we as fans never see.

I think this is a bunch of horse poop. Of course anyone who disrupts practice or meetings has got to go but the goal here is to win a SB, not obtain merit badges for fine behavior. Sure if someone is disrupting the team practices or meetings he needs to go, but performance comes first. Jimmy Johnson was notorious for letting his best players get away with lots of stuff as long as they performed. He cut the guys who continued to make stupid mistakes. I believe you put the best players on the field. The ones who excel during the 60 minutes of football every week.

I am not saying Blue and Mafah were star performers I am only commenting on the Schottenheimer philosophy according to Jesse Holley.

Things have changed in Dallas. Schotty is setting expectations, holding players accountable, and demanding that everyone live up to them. And honestly, it’s about damn time.

Literally this was the attitude around the Jimmy Johnson teams. It is setting the tone for winning.

Cutting a scrub and accepting him back on the practice squad isn’t sending any type of message other then “don’t piss me off if I think you’re expendable”.

He didn't say that Milton and Blue acted badly. He said Davis and Howell were more consistent and reliable. That is more of a reflection on Davis and Howell than it is on Blue and Milton. I'm glad Milton is back. I think they'll have him back on the roster the moment Dak gets hurt which happens quite a lot. Everyone can see that Milton has more upside. But this Cowboys team won with Cooper Rush holding down the fort one year. If Dak gets a season ending injury, then you regroup and elevate Milton because of potential, but it requires that you reconfigure the offense. If Dak is out 2-3 weeks, then Howell can hold the fort while Dak recovers.

As for Blue, they liked Emercardo better. And as a 3rd back, it likely doesn't make much difference for the offense. I wonder if Emercardo can return kicks.

i think the coaches should just be honest about that.

It’s not that they’re a problem child. It’s that they’re not good enough to justify any perceived character or work ethic issues.

Jimmy was very open and honest about star players getting star treatment. He didn’t pretend or lie to the media about wanting to hold players accountable to build a culture or anything like that.

He said openly he would bring Troy a pillow if he fell asleep in a meeting lol

It is being honest when you simply say, "We liked him, but we liked others better." I've fired many people. I didn't hate any of them. In fact, I want the best for them, but the best for them didn't exist on my team. It's not hypocrisy to keep the best guys you can and move on from those who are weaker, in whatever way.

I don't care for any talking heads and don't follow any at all but I really liked the way Holley laid this out. If all sports media could be this concrete and straighforward without the clown show hoopla it'd be much, much more tolerable.

Didn't know Schotty was a QB either so that was some good info to boot.

Makes me think about whether this was part of Pickens' issues in Pitt and they just didn't want to deal with the extras. Did Schotty's approach finally get to him and he was able to be more consistent as a professional? He did have a few mess-ups last season with meetings, etc. but has been nothing but a professional this off-season.

I was thinking that. Jimmy was famous for cutting guys for sleeping in meetings. Players see that and take notice.

Well that applies to all the teams not just Dallas. When fans are glazing the rams and seahawks, i am like whatever.

The difference is the Rams and Seahawks have already shown to be "better" and if one of them wasn't the reigning champions, consensus thinks the other would have been last season. Then the Rams went out and tried to improve upon a team that was almost good enough last season. What were we doing playoff time last season or the 29 seasons before? That's why we "need to see it," you know?

I think there was more to it. I think Blue went off on Schott when he was cut and he told Schott he wasn't going to their practice squad. In that PC, Schott even said that he couldn't help it if guys didn't love him anymore after he has to release them.

If thats the case it shows a real lack of maturity.

Burning bridges in the NFL isn't a shrewd move being that there's only 32 potential employers.

could be the difference between having a real career or just being a tackle dummy.
