personalities like Rex are not built for long HC careers with one team
this may help us land sparano as he may not want to go to an imploding franchise (coming from miami)

We already hired our O-Line coach so what would you be bringing Tony here to do?

The consensus among players who spoke to the Daily News was that, at the very least, the Jets must sign a legitimate veteran backup to push their young quarterback.
“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” said one player. “He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched.”

They could recoup some of the picks they will give up to get Manning by trading Sanchez. But long term, that move could be a disaster if they fail and/or Manning gets hurt and cannot perform as they expected.
