Jets release Mazi

Worst 1st-Round Picks per AI. Mazi might be ranked #5:

Scott Appleton (1964, 4th overall): Dallas drafted the star tackle high, but he chose to sign with the American Football League instead and never played a single snap for the team.

Morris Claiborne (2012, 6th overall): The Cowboys traded up to draft him, passing future Hall of Famers like Luke Kuechley and Bobby Wagner. He struggled with injuries and inconsistent play during his time in Dallas.

Taco Charlton (2017, 28th overall): Picked right before star pass rusher T.J. Watt, Charlton managed only four sacks and was released before finishing his rookie contract.

Bobby Carpenter (2006, 18th overall): Drafted out of Ohio State with high expectations, Carpenter barely started any games and became a deep backup before moving to other teams.

I vividly remember when we first signed him.

This place was off the walls bragging on him and what he was going to do with and for the cowboys:lmao:

This is why I generally only comment on "play" until the game is over and the season is over;)

“I’m not worried about him, most DT’s in the NFL take at least 3-4 years to develop” seems to have been a common statement made around here during and after his first year.
And now this mantra is used by the crowd here on pretty much every draftee position.

NO, it doesn't take 3 years to have a strong impact and I love Landry and Parcells so spare me the what they said BS.

The automatic 3 year draft and develop hall pass given out here to draftees is pathetic.
Period.

DAL always boast they past on Johnny Heisman to get Zack but then they turn around and draft Taco and Mazi. Two of the biggest turds in draft history.

Mazi would have to be 5th, followed by Shante Carver (1994), Billy Cannon (1984), Rod Hill (1982), Tody Smith (1971), and Bill Thomas (1972).

I want the Cowboys to re-sign him to the practice squad. Just to see this place explode with comments.

LOL, don't even joke about that - that would be such a Jerry move, I would not be surprised in the least. But I agree with you, it would be fun to read all the comments here wth people losing their minds.

Chiefs are cutting Kaiir Elam. The chance to recreate the Eberflus defense is right there in front of us.

What a terrible pick. Sucks to think about what we could have had instead.....someone who could still be on this team, helping round out the roster this season.

I get it, all teams swing and miss in the 1st from time to time, but I just never understood the Mazi pick from the get-go. I understood the need at the position, just not the player.

Didn’t Buffalo draft Elam round one ? Ouch . Love to see Bills Mafia shatter a table over that one .
Yep, but it's becoming this weird Cowboy standard of acquiring 1st round free agent busts.

Elam and Murray last year.
Jones this year.
Pathetic.
