But this is Coach Parcells' trash.

He has done a great job shining up what others have thrown out.

Not to be a BP apologist ... but we were a Kicker away from being a playoff contender.

Add in another OT, and we'd have gone deep in the playoffs.

I'm still curious to know how Columbo is doing health wise before looking at another backup OT. If he's healthy, I think he's a huge upgrade over anyone on the roster at tackle(other than Flo) and also Fabini... From most accounts of Columbo it wasn't talent that was the problem it was health issues

Fabini will be signed ASAP.

I would almost guarantee it.

He's a BP guy and tough guy who gets into bar fights and plays hurt.
He'll start this year at RT. Position issue cleared up there. He can also teach Rob some things as they seem similar off field guys.

I'd have an interest in Legree at the right cost as well.

I think they go after Sowell and pass on Fabini. They don't need to add another 30+ year old O-Lineman to the lineup. Sowell is a Parcells guy and the type of fullback he likes.

Not that these guys are pro bowlers but come on.......

These guys are and have been good to very good players in the league.

I like the potential of Petiti and Polite but Sowell and Fabini are flat out better right now.

Nothing wrong to adding a couple of good vets if the price is right.

They Petiti and Polite both could use a couple of experienced vets to learn from.

On top of that, should Flo go down again Fabini has 5-7 years at LT.

I say they'll be signed and we'll be better for it.

Fabini will be a Cowboy by this weekend or early next week.

He will be brought in and fight it out with Flozell, Columbo, Pettiti, and whomever we draft.

The Cowboys know that the OT is the biggest problem area on the team. THEY WILL ADDRESS IT. The way to fix that is to get a stud in FA (not going to happen) or get a sure thing in the draft (not drafting OT in Round 1 according to Jerry).

So they will bring in Fabini and probably some other free agent OTs. The goal is to get as many potential starters in here to let him fight it out with the goal being to have two solid OT starters by opening day to protect Bledose for a serious run. Again, this isn't a long term approach to the tackle. It's a mixed approach: get someone who can start now (Fabini) and develop Petitti and whomever we draft at OT.

Oh yeah, when teams like the Jets/Titans go cutting 3-5 starters........

It's money not talent related.

Fabini never knocked my socks off.

It isn't an issue whether Fabini is a pro bowler. He doesn't need to knock anyone's socks off.

The only question: is he the most solid player we can have at that position on opening day.

Given our current roster, I think he is. It doesn't me we end the inquiry there. We still make him fight it out with whomever else we can bring in. But if he improves the team at all, that's enough.

Improvements don't need to always be monumental: say, going from Hambrick to Julius/Barber.

Improvement can be incremental, as well. (E.g, going with Fujita over Singleton; Gurode over Lehr).

Good chance one or both of Fabini and Sowell are Cowboys next year. I'd prefer McNeill, though.

Those things are not mutually exclusive: we could bring in Fabini and draft McNeil. Depth is important; sometimes rookies aren't always ready. If McNeil beats out Fabini, then we have a solid backup tackle that can play both sides.

That's the crux. In Fabini's case, Dallas would be stupid to go after him unless he's willing to play for very low $$$$. One of the biggest problems with the team is the O-Line is old and pricey. So adding another pricey 32 Offensive Tackle isn't smart. You're going to now need somebody to replace Fabini and Adams in the next year or two.

Now, Sowell isn't exactly young, but fullbacks are a lot less expensive than Offensive Tackles.

On top of that, should Flo go down again Fabini has 5-7 years at LT.

I say they'll be signed and we'll be better for it.

I think they are better off going after a guy like Anthony Clement who has RT and LT experience, is 3 years younger, and less costly. Then go after an OT in the first or second round of the draft.

So, all those opposed, where do you suggest Dallas look for a RT? The FA tackle options are just dreary. Fabini is probably as good as any of those, plus he has history with Parcells. He is, without a doubt, better than Petitti right now.

I guess some would say draft, but I see some on here (Winicki) that don't want Fabini AND don't want to draft a guy. How are you planning on upgrading RT?

Signing Fabini doesn't preclude you from drafting a guy either. I doubt a rookie tackle is going to step in and be effective from Day 1. Give him a buffer with a vet.

I suggested the same with Gragg last year.....hindsight says it might have been a wise move.

Its not like he'll break the bank.

I totally agree junk. Since Backus has been tagged, the free agent OT crop is absolutely abysmal.

I also don't like going into the draft backed into the corner where we have to possibly reach and settle for the best offensive tackle still available, and bypassing better players at other positions (many of whom could also fill needs). That's how we ended up with Jacob Rogers.

If you don't think Fabini is a good option, name a specific alternative.

Good questions.

I think Fabini is only a good pickup if he comes cheap.

Personally I think Petitti can be competent at RT.

I'm not against drafting an OT. And I think one will be chosen IF we don't pickup a FA OT. I'm just not big on selecting one in round 1.

I hope Dallas goes OT in the first. If Pettitt can beat out McNeil or Justice, we would still need another tackle when Flozell retires. He only has a few more years left.

I would be willing to bet that we won't select a OT in the first round.

I do too but like Rush 2112 mentioned what happens if Flo or Petitti goes down? We need depth in the worst way and last year taught us that.
