Jets request interview with Richard

Jerry can’t do anything. Callahan was different, because they gave him the title of OC from the beginning he was hired. They prevented Callahan from interviewing for the Ravens OC job, because it was lateral. That’s one of the reasons Callahan was pretty upset, because they stripped play-calling duties from him, while he retained the title of OC.

Richards can’t be stopped as DC or HC, because they are all promotions. Now I’m not sure if there is a rule where a promotion internally can halt it, but Callahan was not like this.

He would need Jerry's permission to interview for DC job......not so HCing

+1.....not sure why many don't understand this. Every NFL assistant coach under contract if off limit to other teams except those with expiring contracts or interviewing for HCing job.

Is it just head-coaching or any upward move? Say one team wants to make Richards DC, while he’s currently not, with that title belonging to Marinelli?

Don't be a fool, Coach Richard. Stay put in Dallas. You're about to be promoted to D-Coordinator. The Cowboys are a very talented and young team, perfect for you to hone your D-Coordinator skills for the next 4-5 years. Plus, Jerry will pay you handsomely in order to make sure you stay in Big D for the next several years.

The New York Jets or any other team seeking a new head coach are a big mess and very likely with much older rosters. It would be a headache trying to rebuild them when you've got no head coaching, much less a coordinator experience. Stay put for now Coach Richard and help this team win a couple of Super Bowls while gaining coordinator experience and padding up your resume for a much more lucrative future head coach deal whether in Dallas or elsewhere. It's the smart thing to do.

Why would he stay as DC when he’s getting looks as HC? Doesn’t make much sense to me.

I already explained it in my original post.

Would you want Richard to pull a Jason Garrett because of lack of no Coordinator or Head Coaching experience?

It's better if he stays here a few years and hones his coaching coordinator skills.

Jerry can actually block an interview, while the Cowboys are still in the playoffs or until after the Super Bowl, if we make it that far. But yeah, if it's an upward move and not lateral, then there is nothing we can do to prevent other teams from coming after our Coaches.

Nothing like a big pot of drama on Monday to start Wild Card week. Yeah, Richard will cook up something real nice for SEA. Night, home playoff game at AT&T vs his old team...

The street talk has the Jets more interested in an OC guy to develop the new QB.

Would be interesting, though, to see if Bowles might end up back here if that were to happen, no?
Rooney rule would be fulfiled

can we pin this and change to KR being interviewed by X Yeam so we dont have 109 threads on uh oh we may lose Ricard..ughh,,ROONEYRULE plus hes pretty good will have an interview with 8 teams when we are out..

 Man!, you guys are insufferable concerning this " issue ",,, as it's abundantly clear to me,that COACH GARRETT has donned his coachingly head coaching football cap to wear on GAMEDAY!
Ebersince the O.T. punt maneuver against Houston,,, Y'all could try to lighten up till after this PLAYOFF run that he's obviously COACHED our TEAM UP in making to the post season,,, ya knowo_O
Nah!!!!

So are the Jets and he can be a HC there. If he is successful in NY, he can write his own ticket the rest of the way. I don't see any way he stays unless we pay him like a HC.

Well, it's my understanding that this is a " Thing" that the League exerts zero control over & FOOTBALL DAD(who really wants us to have nice things) JERRY can easily retain the services of Kris Richards( besides, you can tell the DUDE is enjoying his work here, just by witnessing his application of skilled ability in his area of responsibility):starspin:

My point is why would he do anything “we” want???? He would command more money and get a chance to be a head coach of an NFL franchise. Doesn’t make any sense what you’re asking for.

Guys like McVay and Frank Reich have brought fresh names to the forefront to coach teams. Anthony Lynn is a fresh name and having success in San Diego. This is really the era where the old guard is transitioning into the new.

Aside from Belechek and and maybe Carrol, I don't see a lot of esteemed HC's with HOF credentials. Its a strange era. Maybe McVay and Pederson carry the torch of the next generation of HC's. You look back at the 70's with Knoll, Shula, Landry, Corryel, Madden....Bud Grant. Then 80's: Walsh, Parcell, Gibbs, and Ditka took the torch. The 90's saw . Jimmy Johnson, Seifert, Marv Levy, and Holmgren take over.......... Then Belechek, Dungy, Cowher, and Coughlin took the torch. This decade, I got Belechek and Pete Carrol. Looking ahead, I have no idea.

I'm not really sure how much control the League exerts but I just know we can't block the Jets if they really want to hire Richard. We can delay them but that's it.
