Jets request interview with Richard

Richard was DC for three years and this role was technically a step down. He had five years as a DB coach in Seattle. It’s nothing like Garrett getting the OC or HC job with zero experience. That’s eight years of coaching successfully at a high level at lower positions and moving up.

Garrett had two years as a QB coach before Jerry had him slayer as his next HC, while Wade bought him some time.

Richards probably took the job because he was fired and proved himself in a year that he’s legit.

Him taking a HC position because he thinks he deserves it is not really surprising,

For once, i agree with you. He hasn't progressed in eight years, he's still not going anywhere. Spinning his wheels in Big D. Lol!!
I think he’s improved every year especially this one. That 3-5 start put the fear of God in him and flipped a switch somewhere.

I'm not really sure how much control the League exerts control but I just know we can't block the Jets if they really want to hire Richard. We can delay them but that's it.
Copy!,,,But,I was kinda' angling towards who could put the most ZEROS on DUDES paycheck.

The street talk has the Jets more interested in an OC guy to develop the new QB.

Would be interesting, though, to see if Bowles might end up back here if that were to happen, no?

This could be a Rooney rule move.

Is it just head-coaching or any upward move? Say one team wants to make Richards DC, while he’s currently not, with that title belonging to Marinelli?

ONLY head coaching........all other contracted assistant coach interviews need teams permission. Even if that team just fired its head coach. The remaining assistant coaches under contract still have to secure a release from their team before they can interview for other jobs. In most cases, GMs/owners will leave to the new head coach who he wanna keep or let go. Bottom line.....nothing can stop a team from interviewing assistant for an HCing job.

Many times these preliminary interviews are to satisfy the Rooney rule requirements. If I'm Jerry, no way i allow this until our season is over. Richard was very instrumental in our clubs success this year. He's got the wallet to something about it.

He has improved, just wish it hadn't taken 8 years.

Guys are too quick to jump back in the Garrett pool once he rips off a winning streak.

Then he typically slinks back to norm, as water always eventually finds its level.

We should probably see how this team performs this playoffs before we start claiming he’s turned the corner and really improved.

Jerry will pay him HC salary, throw another title on him or kick Marinelli to the curb and give him the DC position just to keep him from being tormented in NY.

An Jerry basically stripping him of all his duties, except for a few. The genius label he learned around his coaching an offense, the playbook and calling plays were clearly wrong and Jerry took that away. It’s not really that difficult to be figure-head in reality, especially when your getting paid about 5 million a year.

This is great for Garrett. After Linehan is gone and some hotshot new DC is in Dallas it will take at least 10 games to see the team still plays sloppy and unpredictable football so he has at least another season to be the most inept coach in the NFL.

I would say Jerry isn’t stupid enough to fall for this but he is. The roster and crappy NFC East saved Garrett. Losing a young coach with a high ceiling and keeping a guy that for about 10 years here has proven that he can’t coach is classic Jerry.

Byron Jones, Chido, and the rest of the improved secondary. The LB play and of course the D line. The D carried us for most of our wins this year. Richard is definitely a difference maker here. He changed the entire mindset of the D. Before Richard, Marinelli led a bend and most times break defense that couldn't get the job done late in games.

I would personally credit the turnaround of the D to the emergence of Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith. Not 100% sure what "changing the entire mindset of the D means."

The play of the secondary is improved and you can’t pin that on Vander Esch and Smith.

Richard would be a very big loss.

I think it's more then that though. The media attention you get in NY is both good and bad. What can he make in advertising if he's successful in NY? Commercials, endorsements, you name it. There is a lot of money that goes into this stuff if you are successful in NY, to say nothing of future job opportunities. Think Bill Parcells.
