Jets-Skins game thread: Commanders looking mediocre

It's now early in the second quarter and they're losing 7-0 to what looks like a really bad Jets team playing with their backup quarterback. Their defense has been ok but not great and is depending on lots of crazy blitz schemes to get pressure on the Jets who are starting 2 rookie offensive linemen. DT Griffin got hurt, not sure how bad it is.

The offense has gotten nowhere. Obviously this is minus Portis, but this shows that if he isn't back to full strength soon they've got some serious issues.

The Jets never really moved it against the Skins' first-string defense. Archeleta and Marcus Washington got sacks. Ramsey, under constant pressure, is still a slow-footed stiff. Randle-El has made some nice catches. Jason Campbell just threw a bad pick.

Not true.....

The Jets had a loonnnnngggg drive in the first half that took about six minutes off the clock. But they shot themselves in the foot and moved themselves out of FG range.

I went to ES to see what they were saying about the game.

Again, they had the audacity to gripe about a "trick" play (Brad Smith went 60 yards on a reverse), but fail to see that blitzing every down in the preseason is just as uncool.

You have to understand the Skins mind. If they do it, it's okay. If another team does it, it's a trick play. If a penalty is called on another team, it's deserved; If it's called on them, the refs/NFL hates the Skins. When Cowboys were winning SBs in the 90s, it's because Jerry Jones bought the SB with all his money. When they won a playoff game last year, it's because Snyder is very smart owner and uses his money wisely--nothing about his buying a SB. Since I lived in D.C. area before moving down here, I got used to their extremes. In fact it was their constant complaining about the refs & wining about a mountain of things that turned me away from the Skins back in the 70s (hated George Allen anyway and don't like his son the senator either) and to other NFL teams until I settled on the Cowboys years ago.

I don't even know if the Cowboys will be fine much less the Commanders. I guess you're crystal ball just works better than mine.

Campbell has shown some flashes, but he's not nearly ready should something happen to Brunell this year

Well, you're right, I have no idea how the Skins season will go. However, I'm not ready to write them off because they're having a hard time in a preseason game.

I for one am not writing them off for having a bad game. It's just fun watching them stink it up.

i have to agree. i think the skins will be fine. They have a good team i cant deny that.

On the contrary they are the best team in the NFC east playing in Maryland! Thats some impressive stuff!

I live in the area, so not only do I get it with local homer announcers, but I also get all the commercials targeted at Commanders fans.

They're showing the stupid Cardinals @ Pats game on NFLN...

I was hoping NFLN would be cool enough to show the game based on

#2. Division

Nobody (Well, atleast I don't) wants to see the Cardinals and Pats!

If they used that "formula", maybe we'd be able to watch the Skins game.

Ridiculous.

A reverse isn't all that much of a trick play. Especially if the backside containers play exactly the way they are supposed to play every play. Instead, the skins over commit and the Jets decide to take advantage of it.

Is it really fair to the Jets that the Skins are throwing exotic blitzes and not allowing them to run because they are fully commiting to the run?

I don't think so.
