It's basically a 1st rounder at #33.

As some said, if Garroppolo is as good as many think, he could get the 49ers some wins. Could be the difference between no wins and 3-4 wins and a couple spots in the draft. And I thought Garroppolo would bring a first rounder plus something. Must mean SF doesn't like the potential rookie QB class.

They only had 2 QBs on the roster prior to this trade. They had no QBs on their practice squad.

If that's, indeed, the case, I wouldn't be too surprised if they managed to trade for one ASAP.

As we've all noted in the past, it's one of the many things they oftentimes manage to do well.

Basically 1st pick of 2nd round. Surprised he went so cheap when Brown went after him hard before last draft.

If I'm not mistaken this is his last year So they pretty much trying to get what they can from him. At least they are getting more than a comp.

Getting an almost-1st for a player that will be a free agent is impressive.

Unreal deal for the Niners. Can't believe the Pats let Jimmy G go for such a low price.

But the Niners are also playing for Rosen and Darnold.

Crazy deal

They got the better QB of the 3 IMO.

Turns out Brian Hoyer was originally part of the trade but fell out. 49ers cut him, Patriots will pick him up.

Hoyer has nine lives I swear. He stinks and just get picked up elsewhere

Also gets all his $ owed to him by 49ers this yr (vested veteran on opening day roster=guarantees yrs salary)plus $ from any new team

Draft stock to get their next QB. Brady has 2-3 more years.

He is like a lot of backup QBs.

You see a lot of them. No talent, but somehow they manage to forge ten year careers and then they are in coaching.

You know, like Kellen Moore.

Smart for both teams. Pats get a pick from a guy they can't really use just yet, and the 49ers get a chance to see him play for a quarter season before heading into FA and the draft with a high pick. If he can play, great. If not, use the high pick on the QB and you have a backup or somebody you can flip for a 4th to some team that thinks they can get more out of him than you did. Either way, you don't waste a year and your good draft position figuring it out.

You already know Beathard can't play.
Great post. Makes a lot of sense

Interesting move, you wonder if the Patriots truly saw him as the future or just another QB. Smart money would say the Patriots knew what they had similar to Matt Cassel. Plus the fact the Browns were interested too and have been awful QB evaluators doesn't give you a lot of confidence.

Agreed, would imagine that the 49ers and Garroppolo have agreed on an extension. Maybe not, I guess they could just franchise him next year before committing long term dollars to him.

Wow great deal for the niners. IMO.

Surprising considering that Brady is so old. I thought the pats would want to keep jimmy for when Brady retires.
Dak, matey, the same thought came to me. Why would the pats do that? Garopplo is a great QB, given the chance.

What in the world are the Pats doing? What in the world are they planning????

WHAT POST-BRADY PROSPECT DO THEY HAVE IN MIND?

Brady is old and suddenly mortal.
Bloody intriguing, good lad!
So .... how old is Garoppolo ... ?

They probably don't think much of him like they didn't Brissett, Cassell and Mallett before him.

Push the Sith Lord? I doubt it.

He did this because he wanted to.

No way were they going to franchise a back up QB, so if he wouldnt sign long term it was trade him or lose him in the off season.
