Ever heard of Charles Haley?

seems the initiator of this thread is like the media, in that he titled his thread saying Jimmy Johnso SAID T.O. is no longer a great player. But let's look at the quote from Jimmy Johnson below...

“You’ve got to look and you’ve got to weigh what he contributes to the team. Without question, if you have Terrell Owens on your team, it keeps your team in the headlines, but I don’t know that he’s a great player right now.”

So, Jimmy Johnson SAID T.O. is not a great player, or that he DOES NOT KNOW? Yeh, that's what I thought he said. Seems some people should take less liberty in jumping ot their own subjectively-wished conclusions.

I think we can shut down this thread now, given that it's clear it has the case of the "ed Werder Virus".

Those teams who jammed him had coverage over the top which is why they could get as physical as they did. As I said I don't think he is the same player he once was but I can promise you one on one even in bump coverage he is going to win that battle unless you can bring help over the top.

Alot of teams had success doing that to him this year.

He's made some big plays for us, but seems like he kind of drops off the map when we really need him to show up...but I guess that's the whole team anyway.

I expect others beside Witten to pickup the slack and I expect Romo not to focus on any one WR or TE I expect him to look for the open man and I expect the line to allow him the time to find the open man. TO ability to play the game I don't have an issue with and when teams do put the double I expect others to step up. Personally I would not worry about TO or any players feelings getting hurt they are paid to do the job go out and do your job that includes Romo and Garrett and Wade

Clements wasn't playing off. He was generally playing tight man coverage, but he didn't have help and SF paid dearly for it.
Clements gave TO a 6-9 yard cushion all day. I said right after the game Clements gave TO a head start on every catch and DallsEast posted still shots to prove it. That was anything but tight man coverage.

So you're saying Haley never schemed and Owens isn't near crazy...

Those who played tight man coverage and jammed him at the line of scrimmage had a lot of success. I guess the revelation after Shawn Springs kept him underwraps was forgotten. He had the same issues against Rod Hood. He destroyed the 49ers because they inexplicably played off of him and gave him a cushion. Coach Johnson is right. He can be controlled now. He is not terrible, but he is no longer elite. That is where the tradeoff has to be evaluated. If he is no longer elite, what is the allure?

Like the guy in your avatar would say,

"What are 'we' bloody doing with him"?

Jimmy Johnson should watch film of Owens so that he can figure this out for himself. I'm confident he would arrive at the same conclusion I have.

This "he struggles to get off the jam now" rhetoric is a load of bunk. It's not even close to accurate.

Juke99: Repost

Sorry. I don't agree at all in the case of Owens. If he had a coach, sit down and really tell him, straight up, what the problems are...he's snap. Ya think Parcells "sugar coated" his approach to Owens?

It's typical Owens garbage. He sulks and has tantrums if he's hit straight on and criticized...and then when people try to kinda dance around him and finesse him out of concern for setting him off, he falls back on the "man to man" garbage.

Head I win, tails you lose.

It's been this case every where he's gone. At some point, ya identify what the constant is. As i always say "If three men tell you you're drunk, at least sit down"

You want to be a running team? Run the ball WITH Owens and it'll be even more effective because defenses will have to honor the passing game more.

And don't give me that "Oh, but the coachez have to appeeeeeease T.O." BS.
Does anyone here honestly believe Owens would complain if the team were winning? If Deion ran to Owens to ask him why his numbers declined while the team was 10-0 and had emphasized the run a lot more, he'd be able to truly answer with, "well, we run the ball a lot more, so I don't get as many opportunities."

End of story, end of "problem."

Of course, Deion wouldn't be running to him to ask this question because his numbers will only IMPROVE if this becomes a "run to set up the pass" team.

41gy#'s response:

You are making my argument easy. You are putting a qualifier on this player's behavior. That is the problem. Owens gets to do or say anything he wants to do or say, and the organization bows.

Why should he be treated any different? Why is he speaking after every game? He shouldn't be "the boss" of this team. Better yet, why should a 9-7 team put up with his eratic behavior. Dallas has plenty of offensive talent. They don't need him to win. I don't need Roy Williams to be "Terrell Owens". I need him to score in the redzone and move the chains.

When things don't go Owens' way or when the ship is taking in water, he runs to the media and blames Garrett or Romo or both. Plus, he gets away with it. He's a horrible example for young players, and he's poison in the locker room. You can't win on a consistent basis with these types of selfish, eratic players. Owens' track record speaks for itself. Where ever he goes, drama follows.

I want winners, not selfish, divas like Terrell Owens that chirp after getting the ball thrown to them 17 or 18 times. His production doesn't make up for the divisive force and disrespectful attitude that he has for players and coaches, including the quarterback

He is a GREAT example. Be the best at your position. He wasnt a natually gifted WR - he is selfmade. Seems like a good example to me.

WR's and others go to him for tips and help. Real poison. Just before season the WR's on our team called him the Godfather of the WR's. Dont let facts get in the way. Dont believe the team mates when they praise. Just make us "sources" talk.

Ok. Here we go again. How many passes are forced into double and triple coverage? Are you honestly going to call that on him??
