This dude has received a ton of criticism (mostly justified) for his play.

But I'm not sure he gets enough credit for how well he has performed this year.

Sure, he still takes bad angles once in a while. And he will drop a potential INT.

But he is such an enforcer back there! Guys are looking over their shoulder, scared of the lumber that JJ is about to lay... and I love it! There's a visible difference in our play when he's in the game.

So, whatever the difference is, props to JJ Wilcox for the improvements he's made this season. It's fun to see.

I actually like Wilcox. I've been patient with him. The guy hasn't been a defender for very long. People forget that. I think he could be a part of a very good defense. I don't think you have to replace him to accomplish that.

Marinelli is god. Wilcox´s another of his gifts to this team.

Yea, he's quietly stepped his game up, no doubt.

And maybe it's just me, but it seems like he's more effective when his snaps are limited. I think he can be a very good rotational type guy or be part of specific packages.

Kudos to the coaching staff for finding ways to get him into situations where he adds value. He doesn't get exposed near as much as he used to. And boy does he know how to deliver a hit!

I've been patient with Wilcox as well but after last season and how he looked in pre-season I was ready to give up on the guy.

Boy was I wrong. He is bossing out there. He's even covering well and man does he smack guys at times.

Great thread. I believe JJ has rung OBJ's bell once or twice this year. I'm sure receivers watch for big hitters on game film and make note of who is laying the wood. Don't be surprised if a few really receivers develop "alligator arms" on high balls when they see #27 lurking. They'll be thinking twice about going over the middle, that's for sure.

Wilcox's intimidation helps our pass defense big time. I'm happy with several bone jarring hits he's given this season. He even had an INT last night. Is he showing enough improvement for Marinelli to pair with Byron Jones going forward, or do we have to address SS in the 2017 draft? We'll see.

JJ immediately changed the tempo of our D... nothing like a bone jarring hit to get the D/Crowd pumped up. His energy is infectious and immediately changed the game. Nice int ... maybe a lot to ask but he should have had two. A little troubled by balls bouncing off Carr's hands however.
