Is he pissed off about something and taking passive-aggressive swipes at Jerry or is he just scraping the bottom of the barrel?

Jones is a bust, but he was undeniably starting to come into his own as a player before the suspension. Granted, I don't see any Pro Bowl potential, but I don't think it's out of the question he could crack the 1,000 yard and six-TD marks someday. In other words, be a pretty solid wideout.

But I think this is a classic case where you can't let talent win out over the character of the football team. I'm not a believer that all of the guys must be saints, but we're a team trying to improve the character/cohesiveness of the locker room ... so why sign a high-profile mess like Jones? So you can bring him in, be wowed by his speed in practice, find out he'll be suspended four games in August and then be crossing our fingers the rest of the year that he can manage to stay out of trouble?

Classic case of a guy who just doesn't give a damn about this league. You could see it on ESPN the day he was drafted. He looked like he didn't give a damn then, and he certainly doesn't "get it" now.

The last thing we need is a persona like that.

Lastly, I don't buy the comparison to Sensenbaugh. That guy is a low-profile guy that doesn't generate headlines and no one even initially knew he had a rap sheet in the minutes after his signing was announced. He's a relative no-name in that sense and it will be forgotten he had gun problems by training camp.

Matt Jones, though, is much more of the Pacman/Tank ilk in terms of being a high-profile player (former first round pick) whose troubles are fairly widely known.

I'm not directing this at you rainman, but why do a large number of people on this board say Sensenbaugh has a gun problem just because he had a registered gun in his car, which is not illegal.

Honestly, I was just copying the lingo someone else in the thread used. I don't really see his "issue" (air quotes) as being that big. But, regardless, he does have a record of some sort that has to be acknowledged for the time being.

I'll take the over because I don't think it will ever happen.

Yeah normally I would agree that he would be a Cowboy soon. But it is clear that Jerry is at the very least taking a hiatus from that lifestyle :D

He got rid of the gun toting tank
He got rid of the rainmaking wukka wukka
He got rid of the Diana Ross...er... I mean TO :D

How many "chances" has Jerry taken on players with known substance abuse problems (other than alcohol)? I think none. The Cowboys will pass on Jones.

dont see it happening, Jerry is in clean up mode........as much as he may want a WR....he passed on Moss for the very same reason back in the day
Jerry is not in clean up mode, when he releases 2 guys with multiple arrests, then turns around and signs one with multiple arrests.

As I've said before, Jerry is a hypocrite, plain and simple. And if he signs this Stanback clone, he will prove my point which is, he does not want to win, he wants to be popular.

2005 DRAFT REVISITED, AGAIN

Posted by Mike Florio on March 17, 2009, 11:00 a.m.

As time goes by, the first round of the 2005 draft continues to look worse and worse.

Last year, we went through the 32 selections one at a time, and identified the various busts.

The issue has come back into focus with the recent decision of the Jaguars to release receiver Matt Jones, the 21st overall pick that year.

The top ten was particularly bad, with Alex Smith, Cedric Benson, Pacman Jones, Troy Williamson, and Mike Williams.

Actually, the low quality of the first ten picks provides partical vindication to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, who essentially guaranteed that Jones would appear in more Pro Bowls than “almost any” of the players taken among the first ten selections.

As of right now, Jones is tied (at zero) with eight of them, and only one Pro Bowl berth behind the other two, Ronnie Brown and Braylon Edwards.

Once Matt Jones finds a landing spot via another Arkansas alum with the same last name who owns an NFL team not too far south of Fayetteville, maybe Matt will finally forge a path to the Pro Bowl.

No, he released two guys with multiple arrests who did not provide much on the field and had BIG MOUTHS. And released another who had no arrests, good production and a BIG MOUTH.

He's not changing the culture of the locker room by not taking chances on guys who have been arrested but by getting rid of players who have divisive personalities.

Don't embarrass the Dallas Cowboys by signing this worthless WR.
