My collegue David Moore offers up an insightful story on offensive coordinator Jason Garrett's approach to play-calling in the Denver loss.

"We had no intention of going at Champ Bailey and no intention of shying away from him," Garrett said. "The way he plays gives you opportunities. He takes away some things but allows you to complete some passes, too.
"He's an awfully good football player. We made some plays on him and he made some plays on us."

There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Considering the Cowboys do not have an elite receiver, it's just plain arrogant to throw 16 passes at Champ Bailey.

It's the same arrogance that made him turn down head coaching jobs at Baltimore and Atlanta to remain an assistant and presumably the Cowboys' next head coach.

Yes, he's the NFL's highest-paid assistant, but I certainly don't think he's going to be the Cowboys' next head coach. Once upon a time, I did.

Not anymore.

The writer would have saved himself the time and get to his point

I don't see anything arrogant in Garrett throwing towards Bailey, he is a good CB but he is not Deion Sanders.

Another fine story by JJT. What a clown.

I'm not pro-garrett but how the hell do you turn a quote about how good he is and how you had confidence in your team to be smart about the game and not avoid him if the opportunity was there into arrogance?

If he had say, oh well we told Tony not to go over there too much, he's a really good player the article would have just been about how Garrett doesn't trust Romo or the team.

I don't see anything wrong with going after Champ if you see something on game tape that he allows. If he has a tendancy that can be exploited you try to pick your shots and exploit it.

Eh. Nothing is surprising with this particular writer. Though I do agree with him on Garrett as the next HC. I don't believe that's going to happen.

LOL, man this guy has really lost his mind. Can he write anything with just a little bit of substance and no conjecture?

I don't know about the way the article states things but it was damn stupid to run that same play twice in a row...back to back. However I have been down on Garrett for quite sometime no because he just doesn't show me the ability to alter Game Plans as needed during a game. I would rather let him move on and go another direction.

Kind of reminds me of when we played the Bears and Hester was on fire returning kicks for touchdowns.

Other teams kicked away from him, not daring to chance it. We kicked right to him and shut him down every time.

Great players are an expected part of playing in the NFL, and we have to have the confidence, or the brass stones if you will, to play to them when it's required.

Arrogance is thinking that a player is too good to challenge.

Uhh what! Champ made a great int. But be real it was because of miscommunication. The last two plays were good calls just not the right person for the job.

I don't know that Garrett is arrogant. I don't know what Garrett is. And that's because when you see him in interviews, he is extremely guarded and speaks in the same cliches over and over and over in that same subdued monotone.

This is why I don't get the people who claim they want a "fiery" head coach and then say they want Garrett. When do you see him expressing any emotion at all? The guy is coldly analytical, like a robot. Nothing particularly wrong witht that, I guess, but if you're going to be like that you better be a true X and O and preparation genius... Like a Belichick, or even a Landry.

Forget analyzing the subject of the article of whether Garrett is arrogant or not.

The interesting line in that article is that JJT doesn't think Garrett will be the next HC.

I know everyone bashes JJT, but as the beat writer it's interesting that he now puts it in print that he doesn't think Garrett will be the next HC of the Cowboys where once he did think he would be.

That is good news.

I think Garrett is like Aikman in this way. Everyone thought Aikman was a robot until he started calling games for Fox and then everyone was shocked he could even do it. He always had personality, (even if you don't like his personality now, you can't debate that he was this open when he was a player) he just wasn't willing to show it as QB of the Dallas Cowboys. You see pictures of Garrett, when he was a player, laughing, cutting up, etc. I'm sure he has personality. But as the OC of the Dallas Cowboys he is extremely guarded and sees no need to offer up anything substantive to a hungry media looking for information. What we see versus what the teams sees are two different things, and what really matters is what kind of job he does with the team.

Thing is should Dallas turn things around JJT will be one of the 1st to change directions again with Garrett. The media is always quick to praise and to slam coaches and players and like the wind they often change directions

Even Landry was crucified by the press in his early days with the organization and to an extent in his last few years as well.

I wonder if someone were to send JJT some hormone shots if that would help even him out....

I agree, but JJT hears a lot of things that are off the record, so he knows a lot about the behind the scenes of this team that he can't print.

It sounds like Garrett has lost some luster in Jerry's eyes.

I firmly believe this team needs an experienced winning HC and no more assistants who "want to prove they are great HCs". :)
