Jason Garrett is not Tom Landry... For every Tom Landry that started off slow and ended up the greatest coach in NBFL history, there are countless bums that started off slow and sucked even more as time went on...

Never said he was.

JJT is that you?

Despite the obvious hilarity of this supposition. I must state unequivocally that I am NOT the highly paid sportswriter flamed repeatedly on this forum. Although I would probably KILL some small human to have his job. Despite this fact, killing would not net me said cool gig so small humans such as this profoundly hated sportswriter are safe.

Thanks for the momentary flight of fancy though.

Jean-Jacques Taylor/Columnist E-mail News tips

My collegue David Moore offers up an insightful story on offensive coordinator Jason Garrett's approach to play-calling in the Denver loss.

"We had no intention of going at Champ Bailey and no intention of shying away from him," Garrett said. "The way he plays gives you opportunities. He takes away some things but allows you to complete some passes, too.
"He's an awfully good football player. We made some plays on him and he made some plays on us."

There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Considering the Cowboys do not have an elite receiver, it's just plain arrogant to throw 16 passes at Champ Bailey.

It's the same arrogance that made him turn down head coaching jobs at Baltimore and Atlanta to remain an assistant and presumably the Cowboys' next head coach.

Yes, he's the NFL's highest-paid assistant, but I certainly don't think he's going to be the Cowboys' next head coach. Once upon a time, I did.

Not anymore.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Good one, Gene Jockless Tailor.

Garrett is old school, he believes, IMO, that players make plays a success or failure. His only mistake is that he may think too highly of the talent he has on offense. That is the only explanation I can give for his lack of creativity or deception.

For the last time JJT,

THE OC DOES NOT DETERMINE WHO THE QB THROWS TO!

JJT will always be suspect in my book. Though he may have mended his ways, numerous reports from people who went to Cowboys Training camp in the Austin/Wichita Falls era ran like this: 'Saw JJT sitting in the stands talking on his cel phone/chatting with his friends all through the practices, ignoring all the action on the field'. Unsurprisingly, he still delivered columns that read like he'd been paying attention. Though they also read like team handouts a lot of the time.

Maybe he's changed....or maybe he still takes the easy road...

Kind of reminds me of when we played the Bears and Hester was on fire returning kicks for touchdowns.

Other teams kicked away from him, not daring to chance it. We kicked right to him and shut him down every time.

Great players are an expected part of playing in the NFL, and we have to have the confidence, or the brass stones if you will, to play to them when it's required.

Arrogance is thinking that a player is too good to challenge.

Remember when the Commanders were 11-0 in 1991 and Darell Green was shutting everyone down and playing at an all-pro level? Jimmy Johnson went right at him. Dallas won.

I actually think it's more arrogant to presume that you could run a team

Say what you want about the last 2 plays to Hurd, but if you watch the last play Champ clearly had his arm wrapped around Hurd's waist before the ball got there which gave him the postion to bat it away. It was clearly pass interference.

And if you watch the last play, one of the best pass catchers in Cowboy history was pass blocking, instead of running a route for his good friend, and QB that he has an established chemistry with,

But Jimmy had Irvin. Wade now has ... Hurd. :(
