JJT: Jason Garrett has crossed the line from confident to arrogant

I agree, but JJT hears a lot of things that are off the record, so he knows a lot about the behind the scenes of this team that he can't print.

It sounds like Garrett has lost some luster in Jerry's eyes.

I firmly believe this team needs an experienced winning HC and no more assistants who "want to prove they are great HCs". :)

And JJT has admitted if he can't get answers from the horse’s mouth it just opens things up to his own conjecture.

I think if this staff fails then yes the chances of them not remaining with Dallas is quite possiable I think everything depends on the outcome of the season.

Of course you are right it does depend on the season.

It's just hard to see how it is going to turn out better than last season.

The problem I see is that at the first sign of trouble, (i.e., losing one game and Romo throwing a costly int) the media and fans went into panic mode.

It only took 2 weeks before we had quotes from some of the players about the team needing to stick together and not go back to last season.

That is incredible! The second week of the season and the team was already talking about that?!

It shows there is no leadership in the HC and it's only going to get worse as the losses pile up.

I hate to be negative about the team, but that is likely the way this season will unfold.

I certainly hope I'm wrong.

JJT is great.

To the point and not afraid to give his candid opinion. Often controversial. Always a great read. I take what I want from him and disregard what I disagree with. Then read the fall out here. Great stuff.

Is it really controversy when it's just a bunch of readers thinking he's an idiot? I don't think it is. He is candid, I'll give him that.

JJT is that you?

Odd coincidence;
The Cowboys play well, we have pretty much nothing from this turd save for the one t oken blog, but let there be some negative fallout and here's jen with his stream of attention grabbing headlines and attention whoring non-stop.

I guess my feelings on this are two fold. One, I agree with JJT that Garrett needs more time if he is to become a good HC. I find myself looking back on what could have been had we been able to keep Peyton. I really liked him and I think he is one of the better young HCs in the league. Having said that, he put in some time to get where he is at and so too must Garrett.

As for Champ Bailey and us throwing at him, well, I don't really have a problem with it. We had some success against Bailey and even on both plays at the end of the game, we had him beat on both routes. If the ball is delivered early, and on target, it's a TD. Then, everybody is talking about how our WRs abused Champ and calling Garrett a young offensive Phenom once again. Instead, we failed to execute and we have this. Personally, I would not have gone to Hurd at the end. I certainly wouldn't have gone to him twice but the decision was not mine. The truth is that it's something we, as a team, will have to learn from. Tony made his pre snap read and went with it. Next time, lets hope that he identifies the match up a little better and looks for a better one down the line. Lets hope that Garrett coaches him up and the results are different next time we have an opportunity like that. Give Denver's DC credit. He studied Romo and he devised a game plan to beat him. His unit executed and they won the game. If there is a hero, it's Mike Nolan IMO and not Champ Bailey but that's just my opinion.

Hey JJT.

I don't want him as the next head coach. His playcalling is terrible.

We'll never get a good head coach as long as Jerry runs things. No one wants to work for him.

Bailey had an INT and four passes defended (including the game winner). More imporetantly, he came up big when they needed him to come up big. That's the kind of player he is and the kind of plays he makes that stats won't show you. The guy is clutch and it showed on Sunday.

Jason Garrett has come off as an arrogant guy to me ever since hard knocks. when asked what he was gonna be doing with the offense in the beginning of TC he said with his arms crossed like some mr. know-it-all "basic installation". haven't liked the guy since.

lol just the way he said it and the fact his 1st year was so good that I thought he got a big head already. once they figured him out he's looked like garbage since cause he hasn't really changed anything.

Even Landry was crucified by the press in his early days with the organization and to an extent in his last few years as well.

Craig
Jason Garrett is not Tom Landry... For every Tom Landry that started off slow and ended up the greatest coach in NBFL history, there are countless bums that started off slow and sucked even more as time went on...

So JJT, does that mean TO was right when he pretty much said Garrett blows?

But, but... he puts up lots of yardage...

Ironic.

One of, if not the most arrogant writer that I've read is writing a piece on our OC being arrogant.

Garrett not second-guessing play-calling
October 8, 2009, 11:16 AM

By: Tim MacMahon

A few days later, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett wasn't second-guessing his highly criticized play-calling in the Dallas Cowboys' loss to the Broncos.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, a pretty good authority on the passing game, said it's "not smart at all" to consistently throw in the direction of perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey. That's what the Cowboys did in Denver, paying the price with an interception in the red zone and a pass broken up in the end zone on their final snap.

However, Garrett doesn't regret his decisions to attempt to exploit the matchup of No. 4 receiver Sam Hurd against Bailey on consecutive plays with the game on the line.

"We had no intention of going at Champ Bailey and no intention of shying away from him," Garrett told The Dallas Morning News. "The way he plays gives you opportunities. He takes away some things but allows you to complete some passes, too.

"He's an awfully good football player. We made some plays on him and he made some plays on us."

Garrett also rationalized his choice to keep Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten in as a blocker on three goal-to-go plays in the final series. He mentioned that the Broncos came with blitzes, so the Cowboys needed more blockers. Of course, the Cowboys could have used a different personnel package. There has been a ton of talk about the potential of the two-tight end package, particularly in the red zone, but Martellus Bennett never stepped off the sideline on the final series.

This isn't the first time Garrett has rationalized extremely questionable play-calling. Remember last season's loss to the Commanders? That's the game in which the Cowboys completely abandoned the run, giving Marion Barber only eight carries and a healthy Felix Jones none. Garrett explained that the Commanders' defense dictated such a pass-happy game plan, a weak excuse for a man who won Super Bowl rings with Emmitt Smith running effectively against eight-man fronts each week.

Garrett is either too stubborn to admit when he makes mistakes or too arrogant to see it. Either way, it's tough for a coordinator to demand accountability from his players when he doesn't hold himself to that standard.
