My critique is of the philosophy of not signing free agents and only trying to build the roster with your own players. It's a fantastic idea, but not realistic, way too slow, and ineffective.

It would appear that our Front Office (and many fans here) are more concerned with being right than being great.

I think, which the Cowboys are doing, is that they are approaching it by a player by player basis.

I won't list all the free agents they've signed the last couple years but there are certainly a few of them.

There's a starting guard and defensive tackle spot that are both going to be manned by free agents.

The team leader in sacks last year was a free agent.

I did day of significance...

Mayowa was a Raider 3rd stringer and he had all of 6 sacks. It's sad that he led the team with 6, not significant at all.

Cooper or Bell will be the starting guard by pure default, not some grand design.

Thornton was a bust last year. Hopefully, he's better this year.

Carroll also looks like a meh signing.

Yeah, I know Chris.

You desperately want to play the "Dallas sucks at everything" game.

That's your M.O.

If a 1/3 of the team were signed free agents you would whine about Dallas sucking at the draft.

Basic apologist strategy. YOU DONT LIKE ANYTHING ABOUT THE TEAM!

I love the offense. I also think we have improved at drafting the last few years after decades of flip-flopping strategies and awfulness.

Currently, I have serious concerns about the defense and think that we need to use free agency now to capitalize on the last 3 years of Dak's affordable contract.

Hell of a try Mikey, but a swing and a miss nonetheless.

Good!

So you do like something about the team.

But just because they don't sign the FA's you like or want them to sign doesn't mean the Cowboys are wrong.

I have guys I like in both the draft and free agency.

I don't mind so much that they don't sign specific players, I really just want them to sign better players.

Big money FA's. Outside of Deion which ones the Cowboys have ever signed that were REALLY worth what we paid for?

As we've all seen by their lack of success, the Steelers have no idea how to build a roster.

They've badly struggled with corners over the years and that's why they signed Haden.

He was abominable in preseason.

That being said, the Steelers have done one key thing for the past 20 years...they have built their team and developed their team around blocking and tackling. If you are good at both of those things...you're likely going to be a difficult team to beat. And each year the Steelers are usually one of the best teams when you combine those factors. Even when their O-Line struggles, they still have good blocking TE's, good blocking RB's and good blocking WR's.

I personally don't get the fascination with Haden at this point. He really needs to sit out a year and get back into football shape and *maybe* he can be a productive player worth the 3 year/27 million deal. However, he is a good tackler and you can probably hide that behind playing a lot of zone coverage. But is that worth 3 years/27 million? I don't think so.

Don't just look at us. Look at the Super Bowl teams from the last few years.

It's not a OVERSPENDING vs no-free-agents-at-all argument. There is "smart free agency" in between.

We've given out a monster contract every year in the last 7 years. Those deals just happened to be with/for our own homegrown players.

I'll never understand why making Tyron the most expensive LT in football and making Fred the most expensive center in football and making (soon) Martin the most expensive RG in football and paying Dez top 5 money and handsomely rewarding Romo etc doesn't count to some people when they consider player acquisition spending.

I was all about bringing Haden in, but certainly not at that price. That Steeler defense has fallen a long ways from the dominant unit they were. When Big Ben hangs them up this is a team that could be down for several years.

Not if they find another franchise quarterback
