Joe Milton has 'lottery odds' to become an NFL star

Joe Milton III experienced a dream transformation when he fell asleep last night as a New England Patriot, waking up to find his dream had become a reality. On Thursday the Patriots sent the second-year quarterback and a seventh-round draft selection to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick.

Milton, a former University of Tennessee product, couldn't hide his enthusiasm about joining the organization his family has supported for years.

"My family grew up a Cowboys fan," Milton said via Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz. "My mom always had a Cowboys shirt on. She always talked about them. Living in Texas has been a longtime dream of mine. And now I'm with them. I'm ready to work."

Just work him in as a rook learning the Dallas way.
This is great to know Joe Milton grew up a Cowboys fan in a home full of Cowboys fans. You know he's going to put in extra effort to improve and be ready to contribute when called upon for his childhood favorite team. Big plus for the Cowboys.

Thanks for sharing, @CCBoy

I mean Tom Brady, Brett Farve, Phil Simms, after a quick Google. Lol

Hes a back up, maybe we run an offense he's good in. Maybe he gets coached up somehow. I'll give him a camp and preseason before losing all hope.
I dont recall anyone who thought Brady, Farve or Simms were bad QBs in college. There are a lot of QBs who were good QBs in college football. Not all are drafted.

I love the fact that we traded for Milton. He has raw talent. It feels good to finally have a backup quarterback with NFL level arm strength and could REALLY win games making NFL throws and more than capable of passing for more than 115 yards a game.

I also like the fact that he's a real threat to take the starting job once he's comfortable with the playbook and get more reps.

He's younger than Dak and has more physical tools than Dak.... we're going to see how Dak plays now with a REAL threat to replace him on the team now. Dak never feared Cooper Rush with the overhyped winning streak (as if we won a string of games because of him) or any of our other backups. I guarantee, that Dak will fear this kid!!

His Bio isn’t good.

The part about not being able to throw a football accurately isn’t good.

Anyone at the start read those?

As a Tennessee fan, I can tell you that he will never be a number 1 and, in my opinion, he won’t make it as a number 2 in the league. In one of this biggest games of his career when Tennessee was driving for a TD to win the game, it was 4th and goal and he ran out of bounds instead of trying to force the ball into the end zone for a possible TD or PI. This is a perfect example of his decision making.

The fact that Dallas has a guy in house with TN ties and they still took a flyer on him speaks to the state of our program. Not a good pickup for us IMHO.
You’re gonna base his potential on a college. Football game? For a Cfb program that has slid down the side of the toilet btw.

Horrible take Rambo. Comparing college Hurts to Milton is ridiculous. Did you even watch either player?
You took a beating in the post. Just take the L and move on. You got a laundry list of bad -average college qbs that became nfl starters-even the goat.

Doesn’t mean Milton will be a good nfl player. Just means your argument is in fact the one that holds no water.

This is the Trey Lance deal over over again. SF traded Trey Lance because he was terrible and couldn't beat out Sam Darnold to be the #2. I am sure SF tried hard to develop Lance until they realized he just does not have it. I would bet the same is true for New England. Their QB situation is not exactly rock solid. If they were looking to trade Milton, and they were, I think it is pretty clear they did not think he was their future. So why do we think putting a Cowboys uniform on him is going to turn him into a franchise QB?

I would have preferred Dallas just sign a veteran QB as a backup and keep the 5th round pick. Maybe they could trade it and move up into the 4th round.

Brady lost his job to Drew Henson and didn't go until the 6th round. The right up on him was basically similar to Cooper Rush that they didn't have NFL arms and backup were their ceiling.

Joe Milton is Trey Lance part 2.
He is a long shot guy with tantalizing tools.

But I still love this trade.
You paid next to nothing for a depth QB who costs 3 million over the next 3 years.

Milton was about the 10th best QB in a much better QB draft class than what is coming out this year.

Where did you see that? I never saw any publication or scout claim that Brady didn't have an NFL arm. I don't think that's true.

Brady has an arm that is good enough, and that's what I read on him coming out.

If you ever saw Romo at camp his first two years there is no way you would have thought he'd end up being a top starting QB in the NFL. In fact he was terrible at camp in his rookie year with his funky throwing motion
Romo was on the verge of being cut, and Quincey Carter being kept.
Until the positive drug test, got Carter cut instead.
And all of that was on Parcells, not Jerry.

I would like two see that play. Was it a Dak type step out where he made that mistake in his 8th year? Or was he really forced out.
4th and goal, from what yard line? Did he need to run for 3 yards, 8 yards? Need to see the play.
