Joe Milton "Not a Good Dude" According to Patriots Insider?

If he thought he was good enough to compete, he would have requested to go to a QB-needy team (Giants, Titans, Jets, Steelers, etc) !!!! Makes no sense. The Cowboys were the highest bidder.

Maybe......remember all the QB needed teams mentioned were rumored to be choosing a QB with their 1st round pick. That would have put him in a similar situation with the Pats, playing behind a young future franchise QB. Come to Dallas........strong chance of winning backup, Dak is older, his contract likely ends in 2 years and Dak is injury prone ( good chance of seeing quality playing time ). IMO he definitely made the right decision coming to Dallas........

If I'm not mistaken, the Favre vs Roger's spat was based on Favre not wanting to help a younger QB take his position.

Either Favre or Roger's refused to help their second string QB based on the excuse of " why would I help someone take my job"

Sounds like your post refers to Roger's being the issue, since he, to this day applies pressure on organizations to get what he wants.

I think a qb controversy, on a team like Dallas, is a bad managerial mistake. The media will feed off it.


Just like I agree with dallas' refusal to take a qb high in draft, I agree with preventing a qb controversy

What are you doing, in any organization, if every employee is refusing to train underlings properly based on their belief of "why help others take my job"?

I think if there is one team that is impervious to ANY "controversy", it's Dallas. When you have an owner who thrives on the media spotlight, taking attention over actually performance on the field? The locker room is already full of controversy. The moment any player signs elsewhere, they admit what we already know: it's a poorly ran, ill-prepared circus led by morons and puppets who aren't serious about winning. Maybe we need a jerk in there at QB. Maybe we need a few jerks in there. Our 90's club had more than a couple "controversial" players, and that worked out pretty well, for the most part. We got enough of those guys who lose and say the right thing after doing it.

6 seasons of NCAA.

Only a full time starter his last season.

Cannot throw at NFL level.

Only reason he is here, non GTD 1M contract.

Maybe, but that's not really my point. I dont think shutting up and accepting his role, relinquishing his competitive nature makes him a bad team mate. Of course I don't know the whole story either.

New England was second base guessing taking Drake. But when you take a quarterback that high in the draft, you’re going to find a way to put them in there so you don’t look stupid. Look I don’t know if that’s true either, but it wasn’t a good situation and they did the right thing in my opinion. We’re lucky to have Milton.

Good post! But I do believe they are planting the seed for his replacement within the next 2-3 years. This is why when Stephen talked about DRAFTING Dak's backup, it created questions regarding competition. Remember that you expect your backup to have strong starting traits. You are not getting that from a day-3 rookie QB. That's why we started hearing the Cowboys could take a QB as high as 2nd round.
Milton gives them a sort of lease to own QB for until 2027. That is the year we can expect a decision about Dak's future ( I'm pretty confident we will move on w/o a Super Bowl).

So I don’t keep up with all of the FO quotes but if he said drafting and it’s an early pick, I agree that it likely suggests replacement planning.

To add to that, even though his price went up, Rush was a perfect backup for what Dallas needed. He knew and accepted his role and could be counted on when needed but was never going to be a primary starter. If they were content with Dak’s long term future, I’m not sure they would have let him walk and start kicking the tires on less proven but higher upside QB’s like Milton and Lance.

Milton is a low cost opportunity to see if he has what it takes to be a QB1. At this point in his career, it is not reasonable to assume Milton would accept being a long term QB2 like Rush, so I highly doubt Dallas views him in that role beyond his existing contract. To me, this is a more covert way to start succession planning while minimizing the risk of locker room or media drama. But as soon as they use a 1st or 2nd round pick on a QB, that genie is out of the bottle.

Dallas will only win when the Jones's have made enough money to satisfy their greed, or a player or two or three go rogue.

I still point to NDA's of players and coaches, while also pointing to the possibility that Jerry sacrificed the Cowboys to Sports Media Gods to raise the revenue of the league through creating drama...and that the Cowboys aren't allowed to win for a certain time span as long as Jerry is getting Super Rich off the idea.

It all makes sense.

Be the center point of the nfl, but you're not allowed to be center point and win...while making gobs and gobs of money. Let others win.

A couple of things here IMO;
It's interesting how ONE person's comment can negatively impact some fans' view of a player. "Joe Milton is not a good dude".....what the hell does that mean w/o context? Noticed Drake comments........does that sound like "not a good dude" to you? The Pats even took less to accommodate him by trading him to the team he wanted. That doesn't sound like a team pi__ off at a player. But suddenly, coz one person says he has attitude/character issues, some fans are taking it and running with it.

Personally I think Milton is the perfect tonic to finally make Dak crumble and lose his job. Dak's mental health is as flimsy as a cardboard box. Once Milton plays after Dak gets injured, it's all over because it will be Dak/Romo 2.0... Milton has more tools than Dak lets face it..

Maybe he needs someone to believe in him enough to give him a fair shot ........but the best thing he can do is control what he can control and work his a____ off. Be ready when the window opens

He spent 6 years in college, never could make the throws, never could read a defense, and was valued at the absolute bottom of the barrel in the draft, in spite of having perhaps the greatest arm the NFL has ever seen. Couldn't win a job in Michigan, couldn't at UT, where his lone year at starter was because the coaching staff didn't want to upset their wannabe superstar freshman QB by bringing in another QB. Went to NE, and they dump him after one year for essentially nothing, moving up ~30 spots at the end of what was considered a poor draft. That almost nothing offer was evidently their best offer.

He's had plenty of chances. Working his --- off won't fix his lack of talent between the ears, nor his inability to hit a WR in stride. No serious team would go into a season with him as a backup, which immediately tells us the Cowboys aren't a contender this year if he's the backup, although the old fool at the helm will protest otherwise publicly. He has zero chance to beat out Grier in a legit competition for backup QB, much less replace Dak, even if for only a game.
