Been a fan since the 70s and I grew up in upstate NY where it was Giant country. Cowboys news didn’t travel that far north and the information was not widely available as it is now. I just never heard we were going to pick Montana.I'm not trying to snarky when I ask this, but how old are you, and how long have you been a Cowboys fan?
This has been an item of fan knowledge for quite some time.
Oh, cry me a river. In calif., old fellow, I waited for my Cowboys Weekly by the curb, bloke. That was before the internet, oaf!Been a fan since the 70s and I grew up in upstate NY where it was Giant country. He wouldn't have had nearly the same career in Dallas. Not even closeI was listening to NFL radio and Gil Brandt was on talking about value picks for teams. He reported that the Cowboys were ready to pick Montana in the 3rd and had him the highest rated player that was still left on the board but Landry said that they already had 3 veteran qbs and could not carry a 4th. He said so we picked Doug Cousbie instead which turned out well but imagine what could have been if it was Montana. He also said any time you get a qb after the 1st rd that can be your franchise qb and play well for 10-15 yrs at a high level is a value pick. Thought it was interesting about Montana being a Cowboy. Never heard about this before.
used to ride my bike to 7-elevan to get mine.Oh, cry me a river. In calif., old fellow, I waited for my Cowboys Weekly by the curb, bloke. That was before the internet, oaf!

BAWAAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaathanks eddie.
I am really trying to forget that decade as a fan especially listening to all my friends who were Giants fans. You all know as well as I do, just how hollow & impotently unimportant in achievement our COWBOYS franchise was in its efforted endeavors thru out that entire 80's decade, and other than that being the timeline of one's joining the ranks of legion FANDOM there's nothing at all of crow worthy merits to it on the grumpy old man angled view of it,,,although, I've thourghly enjoyed the hell out of watching some of our old rival games off of Netflix from that decade of lame that I wasn't inclined to watch back when they were actually important,,, I'm certain my dour outlook on that entire 80's decade began in the 80 or 81 conference championship loss to the frickin' EAGLES
Perhaps it might not of necessarily been deemed as all that high of priority in the obtaining & retention of such trivialities to him as well as myself, as this is news to me as well, although, to be honest? I'd all but entirely tuned- out& dropped in,with my back turn to the opposite direction of that suckage 80's decade.
Fair enough.Been a fan since the 70s and I grew up in upstate NY where it was Giant country. Cowboys news didn’t travel that far north and the information was not widely available as it is now. I just never heard we were going to pick Montana.
Your right and I don’t know if they would have success here as they did in San Francisco. The same can be said about Tom Brady and would he have as much success here without Belichick as he does in NE.Fair enough.
Every time I think we could have had Montana and Rice I get sick.
Then again, who knows if they would have enjoyed the success here that they did in San Francisco.
He may have never gotten off the bench...He wouldn't have had nearly the same career in Dallas. Not even close
LolAnd then there was the time Jerry was going to pick Johnny Manziel and somehow the team screwed up and picked Zack Martin instead. Man.... that was the worst....
Landry was fired in February 1989. Jimmy Johnson drafted Aikman. I guess it’s possible that Landry discussed whether or not he wanted to draft Aikman, but I doubt it considering he was fired two months before the draft.Tex shramm said it was his biggest mistake ever letting Landry talk him out of taking Montana. When Tom started waivering about taking aikman with the first pick, tex put his foot down and made it clear aikman would be the pick.
BAWAAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaa
LMAO
It's probably Garrett's fault ..He would have not have had the career he did as a Cowboy. Timing and system is everything. We would have won another SB though. Lol
