Aren't the runs the reason Randle stole underwear?
My favorite was the long run vs Seattle. Murray was plodding along up to that point and Randle broke a 40 yarder. Then Murray started picking it up.
Felix Jones(and Marion Barber, for that matter) was fine until they starting fiddling with his weight and running style trying to make him something he wasn't. That was a solid combination until they each tried to be like the other one. A lean Marion Barber running out of bounds to protect himself and prolong his career and a bulked up Felix Jones trying to run over people and stay healthy, SMH... (Sore Subject!)
I think we have solid stable of backs and, strategically, I think I'd let the opposing team try to guess who I was starting from week to week. Unless a sureshot #1 is brought in or one of the backs outright takes the job, I'd start someone different every week based on opponent. That said, I'm excited to see if DMac can resurrect his career with some quality pieces around him. If he can replicate some of those runs he had in Oaktown, he's gonna find a whole lotta daylight down here.
Open field running is not the issue, its the "dirty yards" where you have to lower your head and ram the pile to get those 2 yards needed for a first down when its all blocked up.
That is where we are going to miss Murray...............neither McFadden or Randle have the power to move the pile on short yardage situations.
He should have been used more last year though.
I must have missed your last 154 posts. Huh... Good stuff. Keep posting. I'd like to read more.
So did Felix Jones until he had to be the bellcow. Lots of guys have good averages until then. I'm not saying he can't do it, I'm just saying I hope you're right but I'm not convinced that he is as good as Murray just yet...
The best part of that Chicago run was how he skinnied up to get through the first level. On all the other runs he had a wide-open hole to get through -- heck, on the first run he had two huge holes to run through and merely had to pick the better. But on that Chicago run he had to use vision and balance. Some backs have an innate sense of how to skinny up to get through those small holes and some just don't.http://www.nfl.com/videos/dallas-cowboys/0ap3000000492149/Joseph-Randle-s-best-runs-of-2014
My favorite run is the one against Chicago. Top level cut back to the left on that one.
I prefer McFadden be given the first crack at being the starter. I'm just saying Randle has shown he can do it well on a limited basis. As for being better than Murray I guess some folks choose not to remember all the times Murray got caught from behind.
He's got a fair number of really big plays from his relatively small number of rushes last season, anyway.
