Joe Theismann: Any GM who trades for Tony Romo's 'damaged goods' should lose his job

If jerry is stupid enough to cut a starting NFL QB with no compensation then he deserves to be widely derided and ridiculed even more than he is right now

That would be the stupidest decision he has ever made and he had made numerous moronic decisions already

Jerry is going to do right by Tony just like he did with DWare. Jerry takes care of his guys and he will give Tony a chance to go
to a team that has a chance to win a SB. Jerry is not going to treat a potential ROH QB badly because of injury. Also, Tony can
nix any trade he doesn't like by retiring and that means his entire cap comes crashing down.

You missed the point of the thread. Tony wants to play and some team is going to bring him in to compete for a starting job if not give him the job outright. JT might be right that no team will trade picks (or anything else) for Tony and that's just the business of today's NFL. Teams will just wait out
Jerry until Jerry looks to save some money and releases Tony as a June 1st cut. Then you will see teams make offers to Tony just like what happened
to Manning. Tony can still play a year or two with the right cast of characters. Tony is not going to redo his deal so get that idea off the table too. He
will probably enhance his money come FA time. Not many worthy QB's out there on the market are there?

This.

If Tony wants a chance to compete for a starting job and Dallas is not the place, Jerry will do what is best for Tony. That's how he works. He will gladly release Tony if that's what Tony wants.

Jerry "needs to do right by the team"
Any other decision is stupid and he should be criticized for it

I am a Dallas Cowboy fan not a tony romo fan
You sound like a Jerry jones fan boy and that is the difference between us

Tony Romo went 12-3 in 2014. He went 3-1 in 2015.

Almost the exact same team from 2014 (and obviously the same in 2015) went 1-11 without him...

He makes any team he plays for a playoff contender. You put him on a team like Kansas City, Denver, NYJ, Houston... and you're probably super bowl bound.

His contract is a serious drawback for any team who trades for him. He, IMO, is done. He does not make any team he plays for a contender. He probably hurts the chances more then he helps them because he uses serious cap resources that could go else where and he can't stay on the field anymore.

Sucks but thats what he is at this point and this should not be a surprise to anybody. You were told over and over that this is what would likely happen when he signed the big contract.

There's a difference between thinking Romo could get a 1st round pick in a trade and what Joe's saying. No, at this time I don't expect a team to give a 1st round pick for Romo. But I do think Dallas could get a 2nd or 3rd.

There's still a lot left to be determined from now and the time Dallas needs to make a decision on trading Romo. Romo could find himself spot starting for Dak or start a game if Dallas has everything locked up. What if a team like KC or Denver gets bounced early in playoffs due to poor QB play? I can see Andy Reid deciding that Alex Smith isn't the answer anymore. Also, Romo's salary shouldn't be factored too much into his trade value. I think its safe to say he will redo his deal if it meant going to a team where he can start and compete for playoffs.

Other than, Joe can shove his hyperbole up his rear end. It's small minded thinking like that gets GM fired.

Gotta love how a Commander QB comes out trying to lower Romo's value. Then gotta hear eagle and giants fans agree.

I don't care what those team fan bases think, Romo has worth, and if he isn't worth anything at all then he can just sit on our sidelines. After all that makes us better at the QB position overall than any team in the league.

DWare and Romo are totally different cause of the cap situation alone. Comparing them just makes no sense.

Gotta love that people think NFL GMs are actually going to care what Theismann says.

I can see it now............ player personnel guys at the Broncos offseason org meetings are going to be discussing bringing in Romo and John Elway is going to pound his fist on the table and say, "Didn't you guys hear what Theismann had to say!!!!!!"

Here's the difference... You keep stating what you would like for Jerry to do or you would keep
saying (he's crazy or stupid). I keep saying what Jerry is likely to do based on past behavior
and his concern for his best players. Jerry is all about Marketing the Dallas Cowboys not
necessarily what might (might) be best for the team in the short run. Jerry did what was best for
the team by moving Dak into his starting QB role. Jerry will now take care of his QB for the last ten
years and who gave the team relevance.

Well its hard for me to listen to someone with an ulterior motive as huge as Theiswoman.

Releasing Romo for nothing would make everyone in the NFC East happy. I don't get why from a Cowboy point of view we would do it, to make Romo happy??

Guess what, he is being paid a huge amount of money to sit on the pine. If he doesn't like it, oh well, send me the money.

You guys are wasting way too much time and effort and brain cells on trying to convince yourselves that Joe Theismann is trying to influence the Cowboys and NFL GMs on how to handle Romo.

Holy hell, people.

The Cowboys were relevant well before Tony Romo.

He is getting paid enough money to take care of his great grandchildren. Romo is very well taken care of.

Agreed.

Did Joey give his opinion before or after the Cowboys ripped the NFC East crown from his beloved teams hands on such a Thankfull day. :)

Really, the Dallas Cowboys haven't been to a Championship game or SB since 1994. Tony gave the team
an identity and chance to win games when the team wasn't really good. Tony being hurt in 2015 showed
how much Tony made the Cowboys the Cowboys. The Cowboys couldn't compete in 2015.
All franchise QB's get paid whether they are good or just manning the position.

If I'm GM, I would be VERY Leary of assigning my starting QB to a guy with his age and recent injury platform. You are throwing money at the highest position in sports, you'd better be darn sure he's going to make it. If you have any flaws in your offensive line, it's better to pass. You'd better have a top flight protection plan, and a quick passing offense. I saw some hits that Dak took the other game and it made me squirm knowing what Romo would have looked like after those big boy hits.
