Obviously Joey Porter got the Goodell memo...
---------------

Porter hopes to put feud behind him

Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter told ESPN on Wednesday that he hopes to get past his fight with Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Levi Jones.

"I wish it never would have happened," Porter said. "I don't know how Levi feels, but the faster we can get this behind us, [the better]."

Jones told the Cincinnati Enquirer last week that during an altercation in a Las Vegas casino March 18, he was jumped by six other men from behind before Porter hit him. Porter was cited by police for misdemeanor battery and released. Police said the players, rivals on the field, exchanged trash talk at a casino blackjack table before the fracas.

"[Porter] got my attention from the front and wouldn't get near me until the six guys jumped me from behind, [then] he took part," Jones told the Enquirer. "What started everything was the dude hit me from behind. From then on, I had to protect myself. I was attacked by seven guys. I don't know what man is going to withstand that, especially with an NFL player involved.

"It was like that, it was problematic for me and my family, especially when the true story wasn't out there," Jones told the newspaper. "The particulars about how everything went down, I mean, ESPN, all they wanted to report was Joey Porter hit me in the face."

Porter told ESPN he was in Las Vegas to celebrate his mother's 50th birthday and would like to apologize to Jones.

"I don't mind calling him. If he truly believes, if he feels like I was wrong, I'm sorry," Porter said. "I can apologize. I am reaching out now."

The Bengals play at Miami in the teams' regular-season finale Dec. 30. Jones has previously said he isn't concerned with facing Porter on the field, but he didn't say if he would file a civil suit.

"We'll see how it plays out," he said.

"At the end of the day, none of us is going to get anything good out of this," he told the Enquirer.

I was listening yesterday to ESPN on the way home and he had said he ain't scared of Goodell or his new rules...

I guess he got a call from The Goodellfather and got "an offer he couldn't refuse"...

I guess so. Mosley said in his chat that Porter had said something similar to that. And I'm thinking, "How stupid"

His history is not exactly sterling and he was just cited for a fight in Vegas, the site that caused all this stuff to escalate like it did. And he wants to take on the man who's laying down the hammer.

Well Porter isn't known for his razor sharp logic. He is, however, known for having a big mouth. Methinks it's about to get shut...

I think they both should get an eight game suspension. Yeah. Thats sounds about right. Education is paramount, but making an example out of idiots is fun! :D

Jones does not deserve any punishment...they should give Porter 4 games, seriously.

Why in the world should both get punished. Maybe I'm missing something, but I heard/read Porter attacked Jones & Jones was also jumped by several other men. The police cited Porter which makes it apparent the police viewed him as the bad guy and he's the one who must be punished. At minimum he should get a 3 game suspension w/o pay & be required to issue a public apology to the NFL, NFLPA, his team & to Brown as well as participate in anger management & community service. I'm tired of these spoiled brats who think they above the law and ever other society norm.

I would say if it went down the way Levi said it did, then 4 games suspension without pay is appropriate for Porter--if not worse.

So the NFL should start suspending people for getting jumped?

You can't say that. If that's the case, teams will be sending goons over to harass their opponent's best players forcing them to defend themselves and end up with a suspension. Levi didn't start it, only defended himself after being grabbed from behind. Can't fault him for that.

Why would Porter have to apologize to Levi Brown? Did he assault him as well?

I think you posted something yesterday where Porter said something like, "I'm not afraid of Sherriff Goodall"...

Now, he flipped over like a pancake!

You can't be serious...the guy gets jumped by 7 guys and he should be suspended. Porter was cited by LVPD, not Jones...so yeah, suspend him. Brilliant.

He shouldn't have ever let it get that far. Porter didn't just say, "Hey there is Levi Jones, lets jump him!" There was an altercation before this happen and the story even states that it started at the blackjack table.

Why would Goodell suspend Porter. ESPN isnt running a daily program on how the league is out of control nor are they citing him as the center of this lack of control.

OH and we play Miami week 2. Suspend him 2 weeks and be done with it.

Goodell is not doing this for ESPN, he has players in the league who have been very vocal about the NFL cleaning up it's act.

That analogy is dumb. Might as well say, you shouldn't be jailed for attempted murder if murder didn't actually happen! First off, the altercation started IN the casino with both of them getting upset, not outside. Thats just were the physical attack ocurred.

Well, then there should be no penalty for inciting riots if the person wasn't actually involved in the rioting. (breaking windows, theft, etc)

This is why knee-jerk reactionary suspensions like the great :)rolleyes:) ones handed down a few days ago are so awesome. Now everyone can get suspended for freaking everything. And then, if Keith Davis is shot, and doesn't get suspended for being awake early in the morning....everyone grab a broom, it's shennanigans.

You should suspend them.

Suspend who?

Suspend everybody.
