Joey Porter offers to apologize to Levi Jones

I'm lying about Jones inciting this?...yeah, one man instigating 7 guys seems plausible.

So, Porter just said (as I noted before) "Look, there is Levi Jones, lets jump him!"

no but its one thing to say someone is a punk and quite another to send 7 people to hold someone down so you can hit them.

No, I don't. It is normal for people to argue or have disagreements.

You are mistaken. People get fired all the time for arguments and other activities that a company finds detrimental.

This is pointless.

Jones should not be suspended, Porter should, end of story.

You are changing the story. I said you would be lying if you said that Levi Jones didn't provoke the incendent in anyway and Porter just attacked him. I basically said they both should be suspended because it takes two to tango. You want to give Porter 4-8 games for his part and Jones 2-4 games for his part; fine, but without question, both are to blame, and both should be suspended.

That analogy is dumb. Might as well say, you shouldn't be jailed for attempted murder if murder didn't actually happen! First off, the altercation started IN the casino with both of them getting upset, not outside. Thats just were the physical attack ocurred.

What does attempting to murder someone have anything to do with being jumped? Who cares where the altercation started? Who cares where the physical act occurred? All that matters is who did it. Porter did it - Jones did not.

I was comparing your anaolgy to that one and showing how inept it was to the situation.

The NFL should care because it matters. A trouble makers is a trouble maker is a trouble maker. You cannot disput it and that is why it matters.

You can't burn down a house if you're not playing with fire. As noted, this isn't Levi Jones' first time to play with fire. See Feb. 2nd 2004 Houston, Texas.

I stated stated that if players were to be suspended for defending themselves from attacks, what would stop teams from sending goons over to instigate some type of altercation in order to have said player suspended. This logic stems from definitions 1 and 2 according to webster.com for the word analogy.

You stated 'might as well say you shouldn't be jailed for attempted murder if murder didn't actually happen' which is not logical and has no resemblance to this situation. Jones didn't attempt to jump Porter, but not go through with it. Porter and his guys did grab Jones and start throwing punches, which you claim should land Jones a suspension. Your might as well scenario is ridiculous.

Porter isn't sorry. He knows if goddell gets a copy of that tape, he could face a possible suspension. I saw that bogus attempt at an apology yesterday. Porter is full of crap. I can't wait until we take him and the rest of the mullets out sept 16.

If said player sent *Goons* as you put it over to another team and started an altercation and an altercation did infact break out, then both players would be suspended. If the other player would have just left, then only the goon sending player would be suspended.

Jones could have left when the trouble started. He didn't; he continued to be involved and it later outside the casino became an altercation. If he should have just left the table when Porter acted like an *** (if it wasnt' infact Jones that started it at the table) then it would have never gotten to this point.

I have three points:

#1 - Players talk smack on the field all the time. You don't get a penalty until a player throws a punch (many times the player is also ejected).

#2 - Insulting people and arguing are not crimes. Assault is a crime.

#3 - Violent crimes violate the NFL conduct rules. Insulting and arguing with another person do not.

If Joey Porter feels that he and his posse must beat anyone who disrespects him, maybe he needs a little vacation to think it over (like four games).

Why does everything have to cause a suspension ?

Some things should merit a fine and only a fine ?

Past issue should also reflect if it is a fine or suspension.

I think people have gone to the extreme on this; in fact the banter back in forth sounds like a bunch of highly over payed lawyers arguing semantics in court over nothing. :D

"It is the duty of the NFL to protect it's empire from thugs."

Good post. Its almost as if Porter ordered his people to attack Jones, another NFL player. If he gets a pass on this ill be sick.
