Realistically, what could Porter have done here?

I would have loved to have had him to, but at who's expense?

I would have booted Ellis off in a minute for him, but I am just heartless like that.

Our D would have benefited from his attitude and fire alone. Not to mention, he can still rush the passer and he knows the 3-4 inside and out.. He could have brought alot to our Defense and team..

I don't dispute that, but since when do we do things like acquire players who have passion and can lead our defense?

The last time we did that was when we acquired Charles Haley.

Porter would have been icing on the cake.

I had the feeling that if we did not get him...oh well no big deal, but if we did it would be icing on the cake.

It would have been a luxury signing in other words. Something that would have been nice but not really warranted at this time.

I agree with that, but the problem is we have more players than we have positions to play at some positions on the defense. OLB in particular.

We got our big FA for the defense. His name is Wade Phillips.

WOW 12 Million for a 30 yr. old LB with questionable knees?

We didn't need icing or a cheerleader. Miami plays the AFC North this year so he will probably be a factor in those games atleast. The Steelers have a history of cutting big name, aging players, especially LBs, and in the end what they do with other teams is not as impressive as what they did with the Steelers.

ABSOLUTELY, and the sacks increased by 25 with this signing alone!

Whewwww.....sigh of relief! Glad someone signed him before JJ thought too hard and felt Porter might be that "big" signing that he needs to make a splash each season.

I certainly hope we take a quantum leap as everyone believes.

Otherwise, there are going to be some broken hearts.

Doesn't have to be a quantum leap, just an improvement in paying attention to assignments, and some daring on the part of the coaching staff. I would far rather go down fighting with everything in the playbook than to go down playing a scared, play-not-to-lose, conservative and paranoid defense, like we grew accustomed to seeing in the last few years. I would much rather we get burnt every now and then when RW is blitzing the QB, than I would watching RW flailing along 3 steps behind the WR on the way to the end zone.
