John Phillips... child please!!!

The OP was a little too cavalier about this injury IMO, and seemed to tie Phillips' value to his place on the depth chart. He was no ordinary 3rd TE.
Maybe, but then I think there were some posts in the original thread where they were simply over the top...extreme ridiculousness. It rivaled the Dez overreaction over an ankle injury.

There was? I remember a lot of misery and depression, but that's entirely normal.

Well this thread will teach 'em....

Lol.. If you say so...

Well there's certainly enough ridiculousness to go around, isn't there?

U guys are ridiculous. Im not saying he wont be missed. What I meant to say was id be happy if phillips being out for the season is the worst thing to happen to this team. Its not like witten getting hurt but people are acting like it. Bennett will do fine. Theres certain positions we can afford this and TE is one. RB is one. If this was something like Jenkins or Gurode then id be nervous. Again, child please.

Absolutely

Why I'm not accustomed to it?

...even more ridiculous. I should certainly know better.

Hell, I'm probably a part of it.

Perhaps you could aid people's comprehension by being more succinct? Maybe try using a measure of tact...and a little less redundancy wouldn't hurt either.

People have responded appropriately, given the subject matter and the way it was presented to them. IMO, of course.

Several things here.

First, with the way Phillips had bulked up,and with his blocking ability - read fullback duties - with these facts alone your contention isn't supportable.

Second, the kid was catching everything in sight. And with the two tight end set, his ability will be sorely missed.

In camp they worked relentlessly with Phillips on a ten-yard out with the receiver clearing when in the red zone. They did not work Bennett in this formation that I saw when I was in SA.

I understand if you simply label him as the third tight end. But with the way Bennett is underwhelming, that status may have changed in four weeks of preseason.

Now we will have to wait until mid 2011 for him to heal and get back into shape before we can exploit anything with his skill set.

I disagree with your position, Shneek814.

I think I'm goiong ot ask Romo if he wants to have a sprog with me. Is he on Twitter?

Maybe Sicko, will be our Phillips of last year. Hopefully he realizes the chance that he has now, cuz I heard on NFL network one of the analysts say that Sicko just went from maybe making the practice squad to being the third TE. From what I saw during the game he seemed to be pretty good, but again it is preseason. I guess we all just have to sit back and see what happens. I think we are set with Witten and Bennett, but I felt from watching Phillips that he gave us that little extra when they put him in there at H back and was also a more than adequate fill in for both Witten and Bennett. Here's to Phillips getting well and seeing him back on the field next year.

But you need it to communicate. Fair play.

You're right, he was. I'm just saying that there are a few spots on this team where one injury is less of an impact on our season than others, and IMO TE is one of them... Even if Felix went down as you say, or Witten (God forbid)... I would be much less pessimistic about those injuries than I would to say Romo, Jenkins, or someone on the OL.

Now with Phillips down, another injury at TE would be a huge deal. But the Phillips injury at this time, while it sucks, is not the end of the season.

It’s always the self-less, hard working, doing the dirty work players that get taken for granted. It’s the Moose Johnstons of the world that the team will miss most. Losing Phillips is a huge loss and don’t let anyone tell you different. The players and coaches know.

Kind of a broad statement there. Perhaps we could narrow your assertion down to "vocabulary" or "grammar".

For what it's worth, there are likely hundreds of English majors here (one of which helps run the place), and many of them do a pretty fair job of talking football.

I wasn't aware that expressing your point using multisyllabic words was frowned upon.

Do we have a text speak auto-translator available? How about I write like a yo clown? Maybe that would get me enough "street cred" to talk about football?

Did the OP's post shed the football insight you desire?

I need direction here....

I'm a little surprised at the heat the op is taking here. Sure his presentation could have been better but there is some merit to his point.

There is no reason to think that this offense can't meet and/or exceed last years production without Phillips since Phillips didn't have much to do with last years production.

I do agree that he was poised to play a much bigger role this season and in the sense of improving our offense his loss will hurt.

My hopes for this team are not affected at all by the loss of Phillips.

Name me another teams 3rd TE....he was a luxury. I doubt our offense is gonna suffer because our 3rd string te is out. If anything im glad it didn't happen to a starter.

Did your parents have any children that lived? :)

The fact that most believe Phillips is better (more productive) than Bennett and therefore our actual #2 TE...is the reason the op is taking heat.

I agree with you...my hopes are not affected by the loss of Phillips, but the realization of those hopes...might be.

:)

Perhaps that's the sentiment that the OP was trying to convey. (?) It's always a bummer to lose a good player, regardless of where he is on someone's depth chart.
