Johnathon Cooper

We must bring back Lawrence, Irving, Cooper, and Hitchens next year, as well as sign Martin long-term. Those should be our priorities, address the rest in the draft.

If we keep playing like we have on defense the past couple of games, I'm not against this. We have holes, but not so many that we can't address them in the draft if we don't lose any of these players. If we let Cooper go, then we're back looking for a starting guard because Green has shown he can't stay healthy.

I think of that group, Hitchens is probably the only one we might can afford to lose, depending on Jaylon's development, but right now, we're certainly better off with him.

It's not like he's playing outstanding. He proves that we just need a serviceable LG in between Fred and Tyron.

I do however think letting Leary walk also proved you need continuity on the OL, so I can't imagine they let him walk

The problem with that is, he has sucked in Ari, NE, and was OK in Cle. He is between 2 all Pros and has a third that plays the RG position to get advice from. He is ZBS lineman that has been a "failure" and injury prone until now. Jerry will also probably over pay because he rewards "loyalty" that way. Cooper was 1st rd talent, leary was UDFA arrows are pointing in two different directions during FA this year.

The problem with this theory is he was hurt on the other 3 teams. He is in between two pro bowlers but he's the one who has stood out the last few weeks. The guy is springing big runs and is awfully quick into the second level. I think playing with this group has given him confidence and maybe thats all he needed with his health. The guy is a top 10 pick.

No reason why we can't keep Cooper, Martin, D-Law and Irving for the next couple of years.

We could always sign Irving and Martin to new contracts. We could franchise D-Law if we want to and I think we can make Cooper some sort of Exclusive Rights Free Agent.

I think he's been better in the run game than Leary was last year. Leary is still the better pass protector.

UFA next year. Resigning him while trying to extend Zack is going to be complicated. He's playing well, but I hope he doesn't get to expensive. Want to maintain continuity, bit if Coop gets a Leary type of contract we have to move on.
not sure it will cost a lot to resigning him. he has helped solidify the OL, but he is the 5th best OL man on the team.

If Cooper continues to play well, he won't come cheap.

Based on the circumstances, it seems clear that he came to the Cowboys with the express intent to re-energize his fading career. It's not coincidence that he only signed a one-year deal.

He's trying to reinvent himself and increase his stick as much as possible. What better place than between two perennial Pro Bowlers on the league's best offensive line? What better place than the highest profile team in the league?

No, this was mutually beneficial arrangement between the two parties, but make no mistake about it, Cooper will be looking for the best deal he can get.

I'm definitely expecting the Cowboys to be looking for their long term left guard in the 2018 draft.

Hitchens will be a modest contract. I'm not sure about Cooper.
Because of just one year of starting and his injury history, I wouldn't think Cooper would warrant a huge contract. At least I hope not. Would hate to lose him.

- Irving gets his first round tender unless you can get a fairly team friendly long term deal
- Sign Martin long term
- Franchise Lawrence unless, again, you find a way to get him to sign a team friendly long term deal
- Hitchens and Cooper back on what should be pretty fair and not very big contracts.

Sign a legitimate 1 tech in FA, not some bargain bin crap again. Maybe a Bennie Logan if he shakes free from KC.

In the draft, take BPA. Other than QB (obvious), TB (obvious and I hate wasting prime picks on a TB), CB (we invested a lot already in this position) and C (obvious), you can use any of your first three round picks on just about any player - DE, DT, LB, S, OL (yes, we should think about Smith and his back), WR, TE.

Glad to hear it.
I'm not sure why Irving would sign so cheaply there are some teams that would love his pressure on their team.
I'll buy on Cooper but if he plays out the season as well as he played the Steelers game I'm not sure you want to let walk.
Once he settled in our offense took it to them.
Does Lawrense get that top DE contract I am sort of wondering do we let Irving walk because we have a rookie DE in the waiting
and we cant spend so much [30 M}

Edit: Sportrac says Cowboys cap space is $9,669,868
Restricted free agents don't really have a choice unless some other team comes in willing to give up a 1st round pick and a lot of money. Cowboys still could match.

Cooper will get a decent contract here, so will Hitch but it's time to replace Brice, he will never get over the bad hands
