Zack Martin is an All-Pro and and Johnny Football is headed to rehab...I hope JJ thanks Stephen for being the more levelheaded person in the room....Someday JJ will learn that steak can sell over a longer period than sizzle ever does. JFF is looking at the Ryan Leaf road right now.

Johnny Football--->Johnny Clipboard--->Johnny Rehab

Seriously though, kudos to whoever got to him and made him realize his career is about to crash if he doesn't do something quickly.

I will never understand why teams use high draft picks on QBs that don't pass the mental/character requirements.

I agree but I guess in his case the fact he was incredibly athletic, Heisman winner, never say die in college..I think in the Browns case they were ready to roll the dice & hoped it worked.

Teams overdraft QBs for so many bad reasons. I'll never get it. Spending the #12 on Christian Ponder, for example. I get it that you can't win games without a QB, and it's your job as a GM of a team without a QB to get one, but man...reaching when the guy has not got it doesn't work. Much better to let another team make that mistake and take another guy with warts a round or two below and get in position next year to get one of the few guys on the planet who might actually help you. Fix the defense, or add a playmaker that will actually help your QB when you finally get one, and don't ransom the franchise by having to give two years of valuable snaps to a guy your scouts have already told you is probably not good enough to ever get it done. Pick up that Colt McCoy or Manziel or RGIII after he's cut loose from the team that drafted him and make him your pet project then, when he doesn't cost you anything, if you really are convinced you can develop him.

I for one will give the guy a break, or at least the benefit of the doubt for once. I hope and pray for the kid that he actually really is starting to figure things out and that he can salvage a career.

Yep, and they're about to overdraft again with Mariotta and Winston.

Yep.

It sucks: you get the first pick or three in the draft, and there's no QB there. But sometimes there's just no QB there. Trade down, or take the impact pass rusher or LT. There's no other choice. Overdrafting a guy you think can't play and then tying up your starting QB position for the next three years plus is maybe the worst thing you can do. Much safer to take the better player and move back up in the second for your Bridgewater or your Carr or what have you. That's a guy you can sit for a year, or jettison after a year of starting if he can't cut it, anyway.

Good post. At the very least one should hope that he gets his life straightened out. Mentally, physically. Just get it together.

At least he's doing something. That's a huge thing.

At least he waited until all his Super Bowl partying was complete.

Did you read the article? He entered rehab on Wednesday. I guess that would be last week's Wednesday. That's a lot of partying left on the bar, errrrr, table.

I liked him in college, but Dallas wasn't the place for him.

Agreed. Would you consider Winston one of these guys who doesn't pass the character requirements?

Fingers crossed for the kid...but glad we missed that bullet.

Good post. Yea, I wish him well, .. this could be a very hard adjustment for him to make.

As soon as he gets out he will be right back in the environment that fueled this type behavior.

Addictions can be very very hard to control.

Hope he can fix this.

Very true. To change your addiction, you have to change your environment. I'm sure that's hard to go when you have all that money and all those "friends".

I know if it was one of my sons or grandsons I would be very concerned.

His father was already concerned about his anger problem.

I don't think it is the friends that johnny hangs around with that are the problems...it is Johnny that is the problem. Until Johnny changes, he will not want to hang around friends that are there for HIS well being.

Having a friend that just wants to stay at the house and not go out club hopping is not going to do johnny a bit of good if Johnny wants to go out club hopping...he will just find someone else to go out with.

Hope that makes sense.

He has to want to REALLY change, and not just say it over and over, before he will change.

I have heard him time and time again say he needs to mature more and blah blah blah only to go right back out to partying and doing dumb stuff.

Can't change unless you really want to change.

This is all true.

But on the other hand, and what I'm talking about is, .. if he wants to behave and not go club hopping, ... but all of his friends are going club hopping, then that is hard for him, sooner or later.

Sometimes you have to separate yourself from long-time friends and that is a hard thing to do.
