Something you will NEVER forget from basic training...

These guys have it easier than we did.

They took us in a room that was completely closed. Made us run around in circles, do jumping jacks before taking our masks off so we were breathing heavy and then would ask us a bunch of questions.

By the time you got out you could not see anything, your face and hands burned and you had snot hanging down to your knees.

Fun times.:D

I remember them asking who had a profile, no physical activity, a couple of people raised their hands. They were told they couldn't go through. They asked who had a cold. Everyone raised their hand. They said well you won't when you come out. :laugh2:

Rack just remember DO NOT take a hot shower after wards. :laugh2:

Make sure to close your eyes when you do shower and scrub throughly

They did something similar to us they made us break the seal reseal it and you could see it in guys eyes we where all thinking this ain't jack bleep. Then they made us right face put the hand on the right shoulder of your buddy and take the mask all the way off and they started jogging us at an airborne shuffle. Then they stop and ask a person a question.

They also fed us lunch before we went it and order us that there better not be any milk or leftovers going back to the mess hall.

So Rack do not drink the milk that day (it is bad way bad)

:laugh2: @ the milk.

I was telling yeager way back about a guy we had in our platoon when we went through the chamber.

At that time we did not have a person to lean on like in that video. We were in a circle running around and then broke our mask and got questions and everybody was hacking and cacking with snot and everything else. All except for one guy. The only thing that appeared to be bothering him was that he just kept blinking his eyes some. The Drill Sgt thought he was just holding his breath so he kept asking him questions and the guy would answer but just kind of go heh heh (think of beavis and butt head) until the Drill Sgt just said...get the H out of here you freak.:laugh2:

After everyone was out and finally feeling better the Drill told that soldier that of all of the troops he had taken through there he had never seen a soldier less bothered by it...and called him a freak again and everyone started laughing.

Bunch of *******. They made us go in the first time WITHOUT masks so that we would know what it was like.

We had a guy who actually enjoyed the gas chamber...It must have been the little crystals you see in it.He did it twice.

We had to go in in smaller numbers.
We had to have our Kevlar on,and it was a darker room and the number one directive was to walk,do not run,do not drop your helmet and once out, helmet in one hand, gas mask in the other and flap like a bird...good times indeed.

Just got back from MEPS today. Everything checked out. Got my security clearance.

I got offered some really cool jobs (Military Intelligence Systems Maintainer/Integrator the coolest one), but I went with 25B: lnformation Systems Operator-Analyst. My buddy went into that and he got a job making $22 an hour (starting pay) so I'll be ok as far as money goes when I get out, if I decided not to re-up.

Just found out one of my recruiters (the one in charge) is making some REALLY nice money and he's only been in 10 years.

I have 5 years and 33 weeks to decide if I want to stay in the Army or not. :D

I was in the Army Infantry myself (11B). I took alot of great things from it, but in hindsight I wish I had got training I could use on the outside, such as your MOS. I know a guy who did that in the military and now make close to $40 an hour. About the only thing I could use my training for is the police, personal security and/or guarding oil wells. yeeeaaaah!

Same, went in for 11b and got DQed. Now I work on computers. lol

I remember buying a hot dog from a guy at a hotdog stand and he was gripin' about how a few months ago he was kicking down doors in Iraq, and now he's making hotdogs on the street.

Conversely, when I was at the overnight MEPS processing I bunked up with a Navy guy, who was going into the service for a job doing steam pipe fitting in navy ships and submarines. Said he'd join up with a Union after his stint and continue doing the same work.

Good luck Rack, just take it as it comes, you're part of a great team but you are still your own powerful island. They'll test you but every single thing is a victory in your hands, waiting to be grabbed. I'm just bummed out I don't get to see the progress on that restoration!

I was tempting. It just wasn' the type of work I'd want to do when I get out.

But it was VERY tempting.

Yep. I already knew about it.

So I'll be about 5 1/2 years active, 2 1/2 years inactive (Maybe).

Cool

Some people obviously didn't understand it when they were called back after their active duty was over.

Stop loss was badly abused in my opinion but its still a necessary evil. It just needs to be run better and the morons making the bad decisions should be held accountable.

I was stop lossed for 6 months leading up to the first Gulf War. I was supposed to get out in July and I was finally released in Jan. I didn't get upset. I used it as a chance to save up some money for when I finally got out.
