Ok, since we don't have much else to talk about, I want to present this scenario. This is Jones' contract year, and he appears to have a huge chip on his shoulder to prove himself. So let us assume that Jones has a breakout season and rushes for 1,600+ yards, while Barber maintains his average of about 600 yards per season. I believe it is safe to assume that McFadden is a better RB than Barber. So if Arkansas RB McFadden is available when the Cowboys pick next year, wouldn't it be wiser for the Cowboys to trade Barber for maybe a 3rd or 4th and grab McFadden while keeping Julius Jones?

Umm IM not a cowboys fan but that sounds crazy to me. Mcfadden would be an every down back and barber could handle short yardage, its an ideal situation.

EDIT: didnt see the if JJ has 1600 yards thing. If JJ gets 1600 yards you dont draft mcfadden

If Dallas can get McFadden, I would trade both Julius and Marion to the highest bidder(s)...draft & develop a back-up for DMac in the later rounds

Yeah, I'm sure Julius would, after a huge season, want to re-sign with a team who was going to invest a high pick in another RB. I'm also sure that the team would want to invest tons of $$ in two RBs. Sure.

Folks need to face it -- if Julius has that breakout year, we may look to other positions in the draft.

Trading Julius would be an absolute genius move, considering that he'd be a free agent and all.

If Jones rushes for 1600, resign him and go after Jake Long in the draft.

"A bird in the hand..."

I know McFadden's supposed to be the next great thing, but we've all heard of names like Blair Thomas, Lawrence Phillips, Ricky Williams, Ron Dayne, William Green, etc. - all first round picks who flamed out for a variety of reasons.

If Jones goes for 1600, then you have your RB and you draft at another position.

Now, if you re-up Jones, it does make sense to move Barber, but if Jones doesn't impress, then you keep Barber, let Jones walk and then draft McFadden.

Intersting angle.

I have yet to see someone say trade MBIII and keep JJ lol.

Anyway, I am one of the few that actually think we should keep our current RBs... thats as long as JJ gives us 1500 reasons to keep him, which I think he is capable of doing this year.

Exactly -- why are some people so in love with a guy who had never played in the league. Folks were very hot on Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson, and Cadillac Williams too -- would anyone be excited about taking one of those guys with a super high pick now?

You forgot Ki-Janna Carter. I'm not a Fadden fan. He is very fast, but the wind can blow him over. I would be more willing to draft McFadden and trade him and our on first rounder to the Browns for Peterson. (providing Peterson doesn't get injured next season! ;)

Hey I like McFadden a lot, but he hasn't played this year yet and I have seen many players underperform after they were supposedly the next great thing. Julius hasn't played yet either if he goes for something like 1600 and 10 tds. I would resign him. There is no garuntee that McFadden will have the impact in the NFL. They run a odd offense at Arkansas that may not translate to the NFL.

Besides, I watched Arkansas vs Wisconsin on ESPNU last night (TiVo is wonderful) and I know most think I am crazy but Felix Jones is more impressive. OK let all the haters jump on me for that one but just watch that game and you would be hard put to say that McFad is absolutely better than the Jones on his own team.

Now bring on the hate for my daring to utter anything but love and praise for McFadden. I do like the kid I just want to wait and see.:

Curtis Enis, Tim Biakabutwhatever, Blair Thomas.

The only superstar RB drafted top 10 in the past 10 years was LaDanian Tomlinson - Reggie Bush may get there -- before that you have to go back to 1994 for Marshall Faulk

I question how good McFadden will be in this league. His only attribute is speed, and we have all seen what that has done for Julius Jones. Almost nothing. Granted he is faster, but so is the NFL. He WILL NOT expose the NFL like he has done in college.

McFadden had a severe high ankle sprain late in the SEC Championship game against Florida. He wasn't able to practice leading up to the bowl game and wasn't close to 100%.

Felix is a nice speed back who could be a good 3rd down/ change of pace guy. He'll never be THE MAN like McFadden will.

I do not see JJ gaining more than 1200 yards. I do think he will get more touches than last year, but it still will not be enough to put him at 1500 yds.
I say trade him and keep Barber, draft Mcfadden.

First, in response to the thread I would not trade MB III period. You know how hard it is to find someone that can get the short yard, and has a knack for getting into the end zone? Second, who is Peterson for the Browns?
