Jones can't evaluate talent

Those trades were to add depth with players that can also step in right away.
They are not trading for top players to break the bank. As fans want top players, then turn around and complain about how much that players is paid, and not producing.

And it is not about giving up the money, they have a cap, as ALL teams do, to work with. That money does not go into their long term pocket fund.
I understand. But true contenders usually use all three areas to find quality players. The draft, trade, and FA. If we're only using one, we're at a disadvantage.

Can't disagree there.
However, they were much more active this year, than last year. Which was non existent. Other than the draft, which remains to. be seen how that works out.

I am ok with what they have done this year so far. Not great, but not horrible like many want to say.
No real significant improvements, but not worse off either. Then there is the health of many players from last season. Will / when they be 100%.

The Cowboys have made it crystal clear since the day they hired Schotty that the running game is going to change and be a big emphasis from now on. They went out and got 2 new OL coaches and now have added a monster OG. All they are doing is following through on what they said. You are just looking for something to complain about.
I like the player but hiring 2 oline coaches should have been about developing Hoffman or bass into a solid guard. He’s gonna be a good player but I just think we could have helped another spot and developed a guy from within at guard. But hopefully he’s the next Martin or close and we can run the ball effectively and make up for lack of talent at other positions

Yet they have one of the highest ratings of any franchise in the draft recently.
Think about what you're saying before you type.
I'm not a JJ defender, I think he's the worst GM in the league, but it's not because of his drafts.
I was surprised by the Booker selection, thought we'd go with Golden, but Booker is a hell of an IOL, and frankly, that was a need to.
Obviously they were not comfortable with Hoffman/Bass etc and saw a player they had rated highly. I don't have a problem with the pick.
That OL is young and immensely talented (and right now only 1 is making a lot). Smith, Beebe and Booker could be special inside, and we are obviously going to be running the ball more. Obviously, need Guyton to step up, but this pick gives us flex for the future too. If Guyton does not work at LT, next year they could slide Smith to LT and Booker at LG. That could be a Shell/Upshaw type of left side. Then try Guyton at RT and move on from Steele unless he turns it around this year. That would save a lot. We obviously need to sign Smith long term.
A lot of depth at RB and DT in this draft, if we got say Walker in R2 and Judkins in R3, I'd be pretty happy with that.
Maybe we sign Keenan Allen in FA. We have money, then work on the Defense in the post draft FA pool. There will be some players available.

Yes and No. They took OL cause it's what they scout best. I don't see it as a big need. RB can be had later. There were 2 receivers and 2 DT's or barron, i'd rather have than the guard. They could have traded back, didn't like the compensation but that was the smart play. Trade back get a wr to help open up the offense with speed to back defenses off or take advantage of the 1 vs 1 matchup.

The jones boys and McClay can’t evaluate talent. That’s why they keep taking offensive lineman. It’s a safe pick. They are afraid to take a chance on a skill player. We needed a Running Back. If they don’t pick one in the second round we know they had no plan.
Agree the Joness' suck and are horrible evaluators. That being said, you have no running game if you have no OL...case in point the Iggles,et al

I'm ok with it too. The problem is they move too slow. Jimmy Johnson wanted to improve the team fast. He did it with mostly drafted players, but some FA too. Wasn't Nate Newton an FA? Traded for Haley. I wish they'd pick up the pace already.

Injuries will play a big role as usual.

Far different back then.
No salary cap.
They had what was called Plan B FA, but it was still limited. Teams put, I think 6 players on a list that could be a FA. That is how they got Novacek.
Atlanta thought Tony Casillas was a bust. Jimmy traded for him. Haley was considered a head case, SF wanted to part ways.

It wasn't like there were hundreds of FA's as there is now. They had the low end of what teams thought were players that were going to be cut anyway. That was the Plan B FA.

12 rounds in the draft, and a butt load of draft picks. Jimmy could not go wrong bu to build a team fast. Especially from the team and players he inherited. He started gutting the team from the start.
Far different situation than now.

We did not need a guard. As has been stated. This was an insurance pick against guyton busting. Period. Just be honest. Truthfully the best thing that happened in round 1 is the giants being stupid and giving up picks to get dart. If they had taken sanders. Dallas would be spending the next four years in the basement of the nfc east

If anyone thinks Jerrah is evaluating anything player wise, I got a bridge in the Sahara to sell you for cheap. This was the scouts implementation of what Shotty wants.
Do you know the color of the bridge and if it can be relocated to South Texas?

It seems to me everyone's frustration starts with the lack of playoff success for 30 years. The one constant is Jerry Jones. He belittled the job Jimmy Johnson did in building a team that won 3 SB's. It's easy to understand the constant dislike of the FO. No fan likes to be bitter about their team, so I'd be reluctant to criticize them as whiners.

It's really difficult to defend the Jones boys. But if you are basing it on this first draft pick you're wrong

Agree. It's the elephant in the room. Everyone sees it but rarely if ever willing to mention it to the one person responsible. That said, it does no good. Now it's time to worry about the here and now, and the next 3 years. Can't change the past, but we can change today and what's in front of us.
