With the big contracts to Dak and Lamb, I think the decided to go cheap everywhere else this year to push money into next years cap. Basically mini tank pushing cap dollars and getting higher draft picks next year.

This way they do not have to announce a rebuild (hurts revenue) and get a new coach, more cap dollars and higher draft pics and claim we are back.

Yes it makes total sense to waste a whole year just to “set up” a HC to be fired that you could have easily fired after the playoff embarrassment last year against GB

Total sense
About as much as signing to make the QB responsible for that loss to 60 million per year
About as much sense as hiring a DC whose defense was 29th out of 32 his last 2 years
No one’s saying it makes sense lol and tbh, the clear lack of logic actually makes a LOT of sense for our current ownership and front office

Is it just me, or is it not obvious that Jerry & co are basically setting McCarthy up to fail this year?

We might be treading on to conspiracy theory levels here, but I am really starting to believe that Jerry signed no one at all outside of “cornerstones” almost SO the team would fail.

With a complete failure, it would leave out any possible argument/decision to retain McCarthy past this season.

If this is the case, I’m honestly not against it. Would I have preferred just canning the guy after the GB loss? Of course, but our ownership is cheap.
why?

why would you spend that much money on limited lifespan players such as dak and lamb and waste a year of their potential?

granted their stupidity does just that.

but i don't think its intentional.

Lol damn!
Jerry had to work out how he was going to pay out 3 massive contracts bordering on highest paid player at the position, all 3 being league premium positions before he could think about anything else.
It’s really that simple.
It so simple a turnip could easily figure it out!

Crawford was the dumbest contract as he had really shown nothing.
Zeke led the NFL in rushing and Jaylon made the pro bowl
Yeah but a high volume runner and a dude with a bad leg was still bad, especially when proof was there with Gurley.

1.5 mil/season is stupid? Jerry has signed far worse contracts than that. Brandon Carr, Pacman, Nate Livings, Poe, McCoy, Haha, Steele, Bernadeau, Roy Williams.

Hades, I'm not sure the Zeke signing even makes the top 20 of stupid Jerry signings. And Randy Gregory would be up around the top if he'd have agreed to the stupid contract we offered.
Who got signed for 1.5 mil?

No reason to help him fail. I think JJ is making money regardless and had no problem wasting a season
Agree. I don’t think Jerry is setting him up, if he fires him he will hire someone else just like him. I think it’s Jerry believes his own BS, has grown to care more about the money than winning and his ego won’t let him bring in who it would take to fix it since that person wouldn’t buy into his BS

I think we are giving too much credit to Jerry and Stephen with respect to surreptitiously sabotaging Dallas’ season.
These two narcissists exhibit an astonishing level of arrogance and ignorance in running an NFL franchise; the Cowboys have been irrelevant for 30 years since their last Super Bowl appearance, which was under the leadership of Jimmy.
The Jones’ constantly overvalue their talent level and overpay for it; they have no clue, or overall plan on how to build a playoff caliber team. The best franchises aggressively acquire players to shore up weaknesses and make their teams better; the Cowboys FO just seems to make excuses as to why they can’t afford playmakers and instead sign some JAG that they know won’t make a difference in an effort to appease fans. It’s just incredulous.

Then why not just fire him before the year?

Does anyone really think Jerry Jones beleives he has enough time left to waste a season on getting rid of McCarthy?

At the end of the season, his contract expires. See ya!

McCarthy's exit is built in. It would take effort and money on Jerry's part just for McCarthy to stay.

Am I missing something?

But what if Jerry signed a few players and the Cowboys make it to the SB? How does Jerry not re-sign his coach? Jerry is not taking any chances
Good point,if he just wants mike gone and and a new HC, and he wants mike to finish his contract , so he doesnt have to pay him
to sit on a couch, then it makes sense.

Here is another thing , what if he hired Zim to be bad DC at times to ensure they lose x # of games?

Or it could be that jerry is just a little insane and alot cheap, and he doesnt mind losing this season just to do whatever he is planning.

Then why not just fire him before the year?
mike just had 3 12-5 seasons in a row, and also jerry would have to pay him the 6mil or so for his last year , for doing nothing .
Jerry is just so cheap he doesnt want to pay anyone to do nothing. He would rather waste this year than do that lol.

no it isnt just you, it has been odd year , and no one except the jones boys know the real reasons, and what they have planned
for 2025.
All in !!!! More with less !!, bring elliot back, dont sign henry, cheap1 year deals only, hire zim on 1 year deal, let many guys walk,
force rookies and others to play this year.
It is all very odd and doesnt make much sense to us more logical people.

Most of us think it is crazy to waste this year, but jerry isnt logical, and evidently is ok with wasting this season.

We have to wait and see what happens in 2025 to maybe understand all this.
