I have always, always been bothered by what defines us as a society. When a man allows his worth to be represented by numbers, then did he really understand life's meaning? I don't think so. We, as a nation, have lost our way. We've allowed material things and superficiality replace our morals and family values. And that's why I feel like it's sad.
Jerry Jones has got more money now than he could ever dare to spend in three lifetimes. Hell, even his grandchildren's grandchildren have more than enough money to spend in their lifetimes. So how much is too much?
On the flipside, what dollar amount would make some of you happy? Because if it's more than zero then you'd fit right in with the above mindset. With that said, some of you though it foolish for JJ to turn down a corporate sponsor and all those millions that come with it.
Why?
Is it because you think that Jones would then, in turn, make ticket prices to the Cowboys games more affordable to the common blue-collard worker? Heh...fat chance. He's got the richest venue in demand in all of sports franchises that easily out-muscles his closest competitor. Why should he?
Well, I'll tell you why. Because, no matter how often JJ feels the need to stroke his own football acumen with his over-sized Texas ego,
HE IS NOT THE ONE THAT MADE THE DALLAS COWBOYS GREAT. He did make them
great-er in the early 90s, no one denies that. But this same Dallas Cowboys team achieved greatness way back in the 70s and long before Jones came into the picture. That's why Mr. Jones should take a moment of retrospection and remember those that came before him - specifically a man named "Tex" and the coach with a funny hat - and give them the respect that they're due.
Seriously.
And what better way to do just that than by telling Mr. Corporate Sponsor, "Up your noses with rubber hoses", followed by the presentation of the new Tex Schramm Stadium and Landry Field in 2010.
Wouldn't you think that this would endear us (the fans) even more to the legacy of Jerry Jones and what he's meant to this franchise and follow right along with little Jones Jr.'s concept of how we're important to them? Well, then prove it.
I've always loved Jerry as an owner based on what he's willing to commit in terms of money for the success of our team, but I honestly feel that Jerry has lost his moral sense in place of dollars and cents. Remember "winegate"? The much-ado-about-nothing bottle of alcohol laced grape juice? Remember how Jerry snickered with how he got back at Tom Benson? Did he reciprocate in an even more clever trick or prank? Of course he didn't. Instead, he sent ol' Tom "the bill".
Boy, I bet that sure showed 'em.
