I'll go out on a limb and say there is a 50/50 (or better) chance he returns.

Is he restricted, I'm not sure? If not, there is also the chance he opts to go somewhere and be the man rather than sharing with Barber. I really don't think he has built up much loyalty to Dallas or the Cowboys, especially since we've never really committed to him.

I would say there is a better than 50/50 chance Jones will leave. In large part because I think he will want to go somewhere to get a chance to carry more of the load. Just because fans may be satisfied about his role with the team does not mean Jones is satisfied with it.

IMO under the current system, the Cowboys are more of a passing team. They don't seem too concerned with clock management in the beginning of games, because they are daring teams to attempt to keep up with them and this is because of our improved defense. This allows our running game to be so successful later in the game. JMHO:D

It is fine to be a passing team but as the weather gets worse and we have to potentially go to places like GB for a playoff game, the last thing you want to be is a pass first team.

That was the road traveled by Indy year after year -- last year they committed to the run -- especially in the playoffs and finally broke through.

I wouldn't be that sure about the load issue -- Parcells mentioned several times that Thomas Jones was great about talking to JJ about sharing the load and how you could be effective as that sort of back. I think the issue for JJ is more about not having a clearly defined role.

Hopefully we won't have to go to Green Bay for a playoff game....I don't think we have a problem running the ball; it just seems that passing is the first option. This current Cowboys team is just not dedicated to the run IMO. I can remember the days of Emmitt when 1st and 2nd down seemed to be a running play in every game and the Cowboys seemed to be predictable, but now, the league has not quite figured them out...

I think right now, if wade wants to keep evaluating him, which he shouldn't have to be doing at this point in Julius' career, but it is what it is, the most Jerry should be doing is throwing a one year contract at Jones to see what happens next year, If we win the big dance Julius might want to consider

staying, but if Barber keep dominating games, he might not...the important thing Julius should think about is that ALOT of teams are using the 2 back system now at days, so the days of wanting to be the premier back in the NFL are dying, so no matter where he goes he will be sharing the carries...the other thing is teams are looking intensly at the JUlius situation in Dallas,

because lets face it, eventhough Julius isn't what he used to be, a lot of teams could use him, heres another tidbit about Julius, at the beginning of the year I looked around in various sources to see where they ranked Julius Jones as running back in the league, the average spot they had him at was 31, in

the league so most sources had 30 running backs ranked above him, thats not good....

I just disagree and do not think he will accept having his carries reduced as they have this season and I don't think Dallas plans on reducing Barber carries. I also think someone will be willing to overpay in FA as most teams tend to do.

I wouldn't mind seeing Julius Jones remain a Cowboy either.

The only questions are will he accept his role and how does this decision affect negotiations with Marion Barber III.

I think it is extremely dangerous to make MBIII your feature back when he has never been the feature back in College and in the NFL.

This offense is awsome and extremely productive.

I just fear that the Cowboys will let him go and the he will turn into a monster RB for some other team, then everyone will say how dumb the Cowboys were for letting him go. If the Cowboys do let Jones walk, I guarantee that the Giants will be all over him. He could be the second coming of Tiki Barker for them. And if the Giants don't sign him, I think the Eagles would. I think he is more of a pure runner than Westbrook is and he would be the perfect fit for their offensive schemes. I really would not like for JJ to make us pay for letting him go.

At the pace Jones is at now this will be his worst season in Dallas and I highly doubt the Cowboys will spend much to keep him. If he is willing to stay at low salary then great but I highly doubt he will want to remain Dallas.

Its not all about numbers. Rumors are that the coaching staff thinks JJ is running harder and better now then since he was a rookie, just that the O line is not all that good run blocking, and inconsistency at fullback has not helped. Not to mention that several of his good runs got called back due to penalty.

I agree it is not all about the numbers but as a FA I doubt Dallas will put out big money to keep him and secondly I doubt Jones will want to remain with the reduced role he has seen this year. Right now he is on pace to have the fewest carries since his rookie season.

I agree he wants to be the man and get the carries. Also Jerrah will not pony up big bucks. So for those two reasons he probably is gone.

I think JJ realizes how special his team is right now and I think that he wants to play for Dallas and is motivated even more by his team's play. I think that as the season goes on he will get better and run harder ensuring his spot on the roster for next season. I just have the feeling that by the end of the season and entering pre-season JJ will be completely different than at the beginning of this season.

EDIT: "Pre-season" above should be "post-season" and I proofread that twice... =(

I think so too...I think they are calling plays that better fit him

he's going to end up breaking a few long ones here in the next few weeks...he's been pretty close on a couple recently

David

Well...I would think that they would have to actually leave JJ in there for more than 1 series for him to break one off.

I think we will let him hit the open market and see where he stands. In the mean time we will also be looking at Michael Turner. He will be the top choice of FA RB's to hit the market.

Jones will have to wait til after he signs to see an offer IMO. Jerry will have to weigh the benefits of Jones versus Turner or just burn a draft choice on a RB in the 2nd or 3rd.

Hart will probably be there in the second and I think he would fit nicely in our backfield.

I am one who thinks that Barber is the ideal 3rd down back and Goalline guy not an every down back.

I think Barber is more than just a 3rd down back but I would agree he is not going to carry the load. Then again neither can Jones.

I breezed through the Giants and Eagle game this week and noticed something.

Dont know if many have noticed but the past 2 weeks he has looked alot faster and actually tried a few of his old jukes he had from his rookie year. Still, he isnt as explosive as he was his rookie year but as Bill Parcells would say "when he turns his headlights on look out. Right now there on, but only on dim." I dont know what hes done dropped weight, lost some outside influences, stopped lifting heavy weights, or his foot might be feeling better but its obvious of his improvement. Even shows in his recieving. Maybe its the light workload. All the defenses are starting to wear down while Julius is still fresh. Jones is a mystery man. opinions
No he actualy isn't doing anything different I just compared the last two weeks to the first two weeks and he still isn't following his blockers or hitting the holes he is trying to be all mb3 like running right at tacklers rather then spinning or juking away from them.
Anyone trying to make a case for us to keep him isn't going to be successfull because Jerry likes having his franchise QB RB and WR. I garuntee you we end up drafting a franchis type RB and we will try to pick up a young WR like Fitz in the offseason. My thoughts the new tripplets will be Romo, Rice/Mcfadden and Fitz. I think we will draft a new back this year fiarly high if not top 5 and he will share time behind MB3 untill he is ready for a starting role at wich point Barber will be traded or released from the team. If the back doesn't work out then he will not be resigned and Marion will remain our RB.
These are just my thoughts. I just don't think MB3 or JJ are goog enough to be a cowboys franchise back. We have had some of the greatest ever and they aren't up there. I do see Romo as a Cowboys type QB though. I think he will be the best we have ever had one day. He seems to learn from every game and get better every week and I can see some great things in his future.

There is no way to get mcfadden now except by doing a Ditka, and I think THAT is farther then Jerrah wants to go.

thats not the case...the season isnt over, the Browns could easily start playing to expecatations (bad) and anybody that saw their offense last week vs Pitt knows it...I really think they've been a huge smoke and mirrors team, even though I do like Braylon Edwards alot and Winslow is playing very well

their defense is still terrible
