That's what I thought too after reading the full quote. I didn't see any guarantee in there.

There's a link to an article in another thread where it says he was asked directly if Garrett would be the head coach and it claims he emphatically said "yes." If so, that would be the guarantee I'm not seeing in the quote above. But if people are interpreting the above quote to be a guarantee, they're sadly mistaken.

Callahan/injuries/Kiffin are all scapegoats this year.

How many scapegoats can Red have??? There's literally new one every year that let's him keep his job

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kiffin gone and JG stick around. Rod as DC perhaps.

I wouldn't read much into this. Jerry is basically saying this so players don't think Garrett is gone and is a lame duck coach.

I think if we don't win the division, he's gone.

Let's hope it's for the right reasons. Let's hope it's because the team goes on a run here.

I wouldn't put too much stock in this guarantee, though. In 2004, Jerry also said he considered Vinny Testeverde to be the team's starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Here´s the full answer, Jerry would never say, “yes, he needs to make the playoffs to keep his job”

It's not that (an Armageddon year) for Jason, and I'm disappointed that we don't have a better record,” Jones said. “But he has got us in position to win the division and got a team here that I firmly believe has the ability to be one of the better-playing teams at the end and in position to get in the playoffs. We see logically how to get in the playoffs, we have that, for all practical purposes, in our control. Now that's a pretty good spot to be in after 10 games. And so a lot of this story is to be played out. It does not have a bearing on whether or not he will be our coach next year
Just before this quote in the same article there was this:

"And when asked directly if Garrett would be the coach next year, Jones emphatically said, “yes.”"

Is that a guarantee? I'll let you guys figure it out.

I think this means Jerry is not ready for a real coach and still wants his puppet. Might as well stay with his hand picked puppet instead of going through all the bother of getting a new one I guess.

We ARE the new Oakland Raiders. Our Al Davis just doesn't wear jumpsuits quite yet is all.

If the Cowboys flop down the stretch, i don’t see how Jerry can sell Garrett to the fans. Already took away any power he had. Re-did the defense. Do the whole “blame injuries” thing? There is no selling more Garrett. He needs a division and a playoff win to keep his job.

Except Al would fire coaches on a weekly basis.

I've changed my mind. Even his emphatic "yes" guarantees nothing. Because he'll just claim that any season is very fluid and while he said Garrett was going to be the HC when originally asked, circumstances changed (i.e. we sucked for the rest of the year) and because of those changing circumstances, we have decided to move in a different direction.

But he has a flip phone from 10 years ago. Jerry is nuts.

Didnt he say this about wade? And then went on to fire him.

This doesn't fit my agenda. So I'm gonna choose not to believe it.

which is why he is an average at best gm.

a gm that lets fan emotions dictate his decision making is wrong for the job.

Implying that fans are too stupid to evaluate what they watch every week. Why are fans necessarily wrong?

Most of your fans thought Quincy couldn't play, Campo couldn't coach, and Jerry couldn't evaluate. Were they wrong about those, too?

fans are ignorant. they see 1/100th of what goes on around a team.

do you let people that are the most ignorant about things call the shots?
