Jordan Shipley?

Crayton's replacement is already on the team.

Kevin Ogletree. Write it down, sign it, put it in an envelope, stamp it, ship it, receive it, and open it back up.

But, I wouldn't mind having another receiver on the roster as insurance. I would much rather have McCluster or Golden Tate over 4.57 Shipley.

Bet ya a nickel he runs faster than that at UT's Pro Day on March 31st... trust me, he's a good deal faster than he showed at the Combine... for example, he competed in the Texas State 3A track and field championships while in high school, finishing 5th in the 400 meter relay, 6th in the 800 meter relay...

Texas has some very fast young men competing in the high school championships every year...

Jordan apparently went into the Combine with a pulled groin, and did not run any of the shuttles or the 3 cone drills... while I know that athletes have been known to fib about injuries after poor workouts, Shipley isn't that kind of young man...

When healthy, I fully expect that he can run sub-4.5 40s...

mccluster ran a 4.53 at the combine, and guess what? ran faster at his pro day.

Watch that clip, and ask yourself if he looks "slow"...

Personally, he looks slow to me in that clip.

My opinion of Shipley's athleticism at present is... OK straight line speed, but no second gear... no afterburners on this guy. He compensates with very good lateral quickness and short area acceleration... he makes guys miss and he's shifty, but he isn't "fast" per se.

Now that I've gone on record with my opinion, watch him run a 4.4 at his pro-day lol.

I'm the biggest UT homer there is, I have a Longhorn hat on right now and I'm at work. That's how I roll. That being said Shipley is a 4th rounder at best right now. If he runs a 4.45 or something at his pro day it'll help his cause drastically. He's not really THAT fast, I've watched nearly every game the last few years. He's a hard worker, is intelligent, and gets open. He makes himself look faster than he is really. I wouldn't mind picking him up in the 4th if he's still there, his work ethic alone will translate well. You can't ever have enough of those guys, especially in the slot. Crayton's not the fastest guy and he's a key part of our offense, he just gets open. I see Shipley in the same light; I almost imagine him as the John Phillips of the slot.

I read a quote years ago when (I think it was) Tom Landry said the biggest mistake he ever made drafting was when they didn't draft Joe Montana -- because they had Danny White, and didn't need a QB.

He said that Montana was the highest ranked guy on his board, and he still should have taken him anyway.

Dallas has no real needs right now -- and IF you have him as a 1st or 2nd round talent -- and it is the 4th round, IMO you take him regardless of position. You can always trade him later for the higher pick IF he really has that talent.

Oh, you mean back when there wasn't a salary cap and you could keep players on your roster to groom? There are teams that take a QB every year, but not in the top half of the draft. If Colt McCoy falls to the 6th round, then you can take him. But I'm looking for a guy that can come in and play if the STARTER goes down, not a third stringer.
