Do you remember if there were less injuries coming up in say the 90s, around this time?

I really think there were less. You would have some doozies, but they were things like Randall Cunningham getting his leg broken on opening day.

Advances in sports science may have made these athletes bigger/stronger/faster, but I think it is hurting things like natural flexibility. There is an entire industry now that did not exist 15-20 years ago.

Sit everyone

Honestly, which is worse? Starting the season rusty or losing a key player?

We started off last season rusty and won 13 games. There is just no point in risking it.

With the first 2 games being against divisional opponents a rusty start to the season isn't what the Cowboys need. The last thing the Cowboys want is to drop the season opener to the Giants at home then have to try and rebound the following week in Philly. Murray is going to be licking his chops waiting to get at the Cowboys because don't think he hasn't heard all the stuff about him leaving some meat on the bone last season. He won't be leaving any meat on the bone vs the Cowboys. If the Cowboys drop the first 2 games this could end up being a long season with the uncertainty at RB.

Sucks for them....ouch.
They're lucky to have so much depth....took a HUGE hit though.
Still have Cobb, Adams, Ty Montgomery, Janis

I was thinking that the two teams with maybe the deepest WR groups were playing today.

Pittsburgh may now have the deepest.
Brown, Bryant, Wheaton, Coates....others

2014 - 2 catches for 16 yds. Wouldn't include him yet as part of a deep group.

Granted the D was horrible in 2013 but even last season Colt McCoy who was Washington's 3rd string QB dissected the Cowboys defense like a surgeon. He had a career game against a very hot Cowboys team. The defense still wasn't very good last season but the offense controlling the ball with the running game kept the D off the field an average of 13 plays fewer per game than 2 years ago. As long as the Packers have Rodgers they'll compete because although I think Nelson is a very good receiver I still believe he's a product of Aaron Rodgers. In the game 2 years ago although Flynn had a big game with 4 TD's Nelson only put up 5 catches for 61 yards. The Packers will be fine without Nelson with Kolb and Davante Adams who as a rookie last season torched the Cowboys in the playoffs for 7 catches for 117 yards and a TD. He looks like he may end up being a terrific receiver for the Packers. In week 13 vs NE he had 6 catches for 121 yards averaging 20.2 a catch.

Yeah, I pretty much have said much the same things. I don't think you and I are in disagreement here. The only thing I wanted to get across is that Flynn beating the 2013 defense has very little to do with the 2015 Dallas defense.

The main thing that we are in agreement on though is that as long as GB has Rogers they'll be good.

Remember Jamal Anderson jogged and then walked down the Texas Stadium tunnel after tearing his ACL. I believe it was the season after the Falcons Super Bowl run...

Michael Irvin did the same thing when he tore his ACL back in the day. Walked off, and I thought he was fine. Nope. Missed the whole season.

Unfortunately, I remember that all too well. Also, he endured some unfair criticism as a result of that injury.

Correct. There are partial tears that you can tough through and jog on. It does not have to be devastating to end a player's season.

Flynn carving the defense up in 2013 and McCoy carving the defense up last season has little to do with the 2015 defense but until the defense proves itself you can't just assume we're all of a sudden a solid unit. McClain being out is going to hurt the team so will the absence of Hardy the first 4 games which is going to put a lot on Gregory's plate. Him and Byron Jones are going to experience some growing pains and none of us know how long Lee will hold up. On paper the defense looks better and I believe it will be better but until we start playing for real we won't know exactly where the defense is. It's possible the Cowboys may start off a little slow defensively until Hardy returns we'll just have to see.

I remember that it looked like everything was fine I think he even came back on the field for another play or two.

My $0.02 is that prior to the Nelson injury the Packers and Cowboys were basically neck and neck in terms of talent.

I believe the scales just tilted slightly towards the Cowboys.

I think Davonte Adams (Nelon's replacement) has a lot of upside, however, he has a LONG way to go to replace Nelson's 1500 yards and Nelson's knack for catching bombs.

Cry me a river . . . . . . . . . . . . Packers fans . . . . .

Sorry but I wish nothing but misfortune on that team that was gifted a trip to the NFCCG last year while the deserving team sat at home. Feel bad for the individual player, but nothing more.

yes because they had something to do with the call

If this is the reality, give us 18 regular season games. The Preseason is just stupid. Can you imagine if that happens to a guy like Dez for us?

18 regular season games is absurd. Players can barely last 16, much less 2 more. Adding 2 regular season games in place of 2 preseason games is not even close to a fair exchange. I think they actually had it right back in the day with 12-14. 16 is too many. I really think every single sport here has too many games. MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL could all do some good for the overall health and quality of the sport if they subtracted games from the season. But of course they won't because the owners want that money from the home games and all the tv money. Networks won't go for it either.
