Yup, how many other NFL teams have their owner as GM?
We are at such a competative disadvantage!
No NFCCG in 29 years for a reason....
john, I'm a believer that NFL General Management is a profession, has well-defined role, and must meet ownership parameters, objectives (wins)
the Cowboys actually haven't had a GM since Tex retired. I could open up a lemonade (or hot chocolate) stand with my grand daughter tomorrow, finance it, and proclaim myself CEO and General Manager. I'd handle hiring, purchasing and media.
What Jerruh has done is about the same thing. Competitive disadvantage, without question. Not trying to be flippant, but is what it is.

Yes , the Jones are playing checkers
The rest of the NFL is playing chess.

You're missing the point. McCarthy WANTED to call the plays. He did not want anyone else to call them, regardless of how proficient they were at doing so. They could've had McVay and Payton as co-OC's and McCarthy would still want to call the plays. There's more to being an OC than just calling plays.
I will concede that I have lost your point. However, your point does not counter Jori Epstein's question, which I was addressing. McCarthy WANTING to call the plays is not an endorsement of Brian Schottenheimer's capabilities as an offensive coordinator under him. And certainly does nothing to justify Schottenheimer as a quality head coaching candidate--quite the opposite in fact.

So basically - he's comfortable with the Jones family, he's comfortable with Dak and while Big Mike didn't work out - maybe someone on his staff with little to no success elsewhere might work out. So we'll give it a shot..probably will end badly, but hey - we tried.
Dude....that's SO eerily accurate, and yet SO depressing at the same time. Glad I live in Michigan, yeah the Lions crapped the bed vs Wash. but at least you know grownups are in charge of my 2nd favorite team

It is a done deal folks quit whining about it.
He deserves at least one season to see what he can actually do or not do.
Pete Carroll , and ben johnson did not want to come here to the circus.
Saleh was a failure, Deion didnt want to come here, our other coaches left to get away from this circus.

You guys act like a jimmy johnson type coach was passed up for shot lol.

There were no good coaches, or hot coaches willing to come here. They all know what goes on here.

I would rather have shot than moore or MM.

Epstein ends her commentary asking whether Brian Schottenheimmer is the best playcaller for 2025 and is uncertain whether there is enough evidence saying he is.

Someone. Anyone. Tell me whether I am misremembering.

Didn't Mike McCarthy start making all the play calls when Kellen Moore left--despite the fact Schottenheimmer was his offensive coordinator?

I mean... huh? More evidence? Why? Do we need a smoking gun? Is it necessary for the butler to confess? Are we waiting on CSI:Miami to supply the DNA results? OH NO!
Didn’t Moore get the duries taken away then go to Philly and now he’s a hot coordinator? None of this matters. Hot assistant get jobs every year and most fail.

It may not matter but that conclusion is not a glowing endorsement for Schottenheimer's chances of somehow becoming a 'hot head coach' either.

And really, when you think about it, they're stuck with Dak for a few years most likely, bring in the proven HC when he can have his own QB to mold.
That's what seems odd to me.

Resigning Dak was Jerry was swinging for a single. Now he's just throwing the game.

A new HC bringing up a new QB. That's a story. That sparks interest. Even hope.

Instead, let's run back Dak. Ok fine. And then Dak is injured, but he's locked in, so it is what it is. Now we're running it back with Dak coming off a season ending injury and his worst season ever, by far.

Standing in that hole, the answer is to run it back with the McCarthy lackey/pity hire promoted to take over for McCarthy?
It's the same old, same old, but worse. Lesser.

I thought McCarthy deserved some credit for playing his backup QB to a 500 record. That's not a trivial accomplishment. But we dump McCarthy, and let his lackey take over?

This is just not caring about winning *or* even selling a story.
This hire a a shrug. A don't care. A whatever. A give up. A get it over with.

People talking about Schottenheimer running a ton but reports were that when he was fired in Seattle it was because Carroll wanted to run the ball more.

Now you could say yeah but he didn't have Rico Dowdle and that's a good point. That's a great point actually.
