I said there's risks with any player you draft and I wasn't just referring to the Cowboys. There's no excuse for an NFL player shoplifting that's a big red flag something in their head isn't ticking right. You could tell in his arrest video he has a bunch of screws loose. I said right after Randle got arrested I would move on from him because you can't trust him to be the starter if Murray moves on and gamble that he doesn't end up in trouble again. He was facing a possible league suspension for that shoplifting offense and the Cowboys still didn't draft an RB as insurance.
The team was unprepared for the 2015 season having to cut their backup QB who they claimed showed great improvement during the offseason and had to cut their starting RB who couldn't stay out of trouble. Both moves forced the team to throw away a couple of 7th round picks one on an RB we ended up cutting after only a few carries and the other on a QB who ended up being worse than the backup QB we had.
Salary considerations fueled the fire on the Randle situation. A head coach was both striking at the Cowboys and elevating the cost to retain the natural head to the Dallas running back group.
Dallas closed ranks and attempted to protect a running back who had enough talent to actually achieve a higher role. The error was on the side of Randle...and full responsibility lies there.
As to plans on a quarterback, that was due to investments in other positions on the team. No one planned on the loss of both Dez Bryant and Tony Romo. For a purely backup status quarterback, the loss of Dez as well, was the killer.
Both the running games and the passing games were in transition the entire first half of the season. The team lost Randle and then physically lost Dez...that's not minor in what was actually being dealt with.
Your comment was a reasonable shot from the hip, although.
