Josh Allen's nugget on Dak's $60M contract

Forget the MVP thing. Emotions aside when has an All Pro not reset the market? Truly asking.
Well, Josh just did, right? When Mahomes signed his extension, it was tops in some categories but I'm not sure it was highest AAV.

Also, you are mixing apples & oranges. Last year Dallas was the only team that could negotiate with him unless he waived the no trade clause. If they had chose to let him play out his deal, he would be hitting the market playing poorly & hurt not All Pro. Even if he had a decent season & didn't get hurt, it's very doubtful he receives the contract they gave him last year. Teams seem to be drawing a line in the sand about QB salary with next up not meaning new record salary.

I should’ve clarified I meant a QB. When has a QB not reset the market?
Purdy may well “reset the market” down from $60 million AAV. The guy who just won MVP got an extension at $55 million AAV, albeit with the highest guaranteed compensation ever, which may indicate some GMs are working to establish more appropriate compensation for QB1s.

I would never do it. 5 million gets you nothing……5 million can’t even give you Rico Dowdle. Dak did what was best for the players not the Cowboys. Josh Allen is enabling his teams crappy mismanagement of the cap. He take less and they make him work harder.
It’s not 5m he gave up though. Dak signed for 60m$ when the cap was at 255, that’s 23.5% of the cap. If Josh took 23.5% of the cap this year, that’s 66m$….

Plus Dak signed at the end of his contract. 2024 was his final year. Josh Allen was already signed through 2028. So if the cap goes up 20m every year, this deal will be… 15% of the cap when it starts in 2029. That’s crazy. For comparison, that’s like a FA QB taking 41m AAV this season. Not even second tier money anymore

Walter Payton man of the year award! I got it from experts in here that the only trophy that matters is the Lombardi . Everything else is failure
Glad he's getting 60 mil a year for...checks notes...being nice. Much more important than on the field performance.

If they loaded up on defense sleep number’s rookie year. Dak will always choke in the big moment no matter who’s around him.
I respectfully disagree. Dak was very solid his first few years in the league; nobody can say with certainty that even if we had a top 10 defense with an actual pass rush, that we wouldn't have had a chance at a Super Bowl.

I can’t explain it to you if you can’t see it in his game or lack there of. He always folds under pressure. I’ll ask you since no one else on here seems to be able to answer and I’ve ask several times, how many games in 9 years has Dak brought us back to win when being down 10 points at any point in the game?

Interesting.........

5mil is a lot, but this clip will claw back some of that 5mil back for him in increased endorsement deals. I don't expect guys to take less than they can get, but his whole demeanor is just such a refreshing throwback. Imagine how different the fan base would feel about Dak if he had done and said that.

I don't know squat about Josh Allen, but now this is the 1 thing I know and will remember.

And I'm guessing his agent got improved terms in the contract in compensation for the below market salary numbers. I doubt his agent is quite so "gosh, shucks".

2016 was the best chance since 2007. Maybe better given that TO wasn't healthy for the game.

Close game against Green Bay, and Dak had his best game in the playoffs behind the blowout at Tampa. Maybe his best season all around. The run game and oline were truly dominant and the defense good behind Sean Lee's All Pro year. The dline wasn't the disaster it was in 2014.

2016 was a legitimate contender.

Should have given Almost Antonio a chance. But not.

Who says these guys don't take discount deals? News flash: Josh Allen is a better QB than Dak Prescott and took a lesser deal a year later. Winners know what needs to be done to win, and they do it. Is it good for the QB fraternity? Who cares? It's good for the TEAM. 6 year deal, btw. Now go ahead with the excuses...

Purdy is about to sign. He’s been to a Super Bowl. If he even gets $50 million it will be a tribute to a great agent. The market is going the other way for quarterbacks. Dak’s deal may represent the high water mark for years.
It will represent how dumb and dumber are getting dumb and dumber lol

I haven’t seen any proof of this. Josh Allen got record breaking guaranteed money. Did Josh Allen take 5 million less for more guaranteed money? It did they shortchange him?

If Purdy and Stroud get lowballed I’d agree. Because Tua, Love and Lawrence for sure didn’t take cuts.

What Allen got doesn’t determine what others get though. It’s about what Purdy means to them not what Josh Allen means to the Bills.

Now guys, Dak didn’t take that deal just for himself. He was doing it for his brothers(i.e., other players) who were gonna negotiate deals after him.

Dak said so himself. So you know it’s true.

But really, Dak let it slip during his first negotiations when he said it’s not his job to worry about the salary cap, he just wants everyone to get paid.

His actions during his entire career have shown that getting paid is the priority for him. Anything else is just secondary.

Purdy and Stroud will be offered contracts. If they don’t believe what they’re being offered is appropriate they can decline the offer. They understood how the rookie contract works before they agreed to them. The understood they had to pay union dues and abide by the tenets of the CBA.

If they agree to less than $60 million AAV it means they agreed to the amount. That’s not being “lowballed”. Every quarterback is different, every team is different, every negotiation is different. Jerry Jones does not get to force every NFL ownership group to be as foolish as he is.

But Josh's clearly isn't highest AAV right? That was the bar we seemed to be talking about when throwing around $55M & $60M.

Leading up to Dak's deal it was always "next man up" sets the bar. They have signed after him & not set the bar for AAV. Did the other agents not know to ask for more? Seems pretty clear teams said no, that isn't the ballpark we are willing to pay.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Jerry. Thr market was set before Jerry when Tua, Love and Lawrence got record break deals. 2nd and 3rd tier qbs.

I don’t believe that. I believe if Allen hit the open market a team would’ve offered him whatever. Teams right now are fighting for Justin Fields and Sam Darnold….Bills are fortunate he didn’t take them to town and make them earn their check.
