That’s not really flipping it around though. It’s still acknowledging that Dak doesn’t care about winning because if he knows it won’t happen in Dallas he would have played out the string and went somewhere else if he did care.Let's flip this around. If you're playing for the Jones boys and you know you won't have a chance to win anything, why not hold out for the biggest payday that you can? Why cut Jerry a break so that he can stiff Rico Dowdle and pocket that change?
I think it’s as simple as guys like Allen know they are future HOFers and don’t need to be the highest paid. In fact it’s probably smarter not to be. A few million is a rounding error to these guys when you look at their lifetime earnings potential and the optics of taking a team friendly deal is probably worth more in the long run. With Dak, I think he knows he doesn’t have the talent or credentials to be elite so needed to be the highest paid because otherwise he’s not in the class of your Allens or Burrows.
