Josh Allen's nugget on Dak's $60M contract

Purdy is about to sign. He’s been to a Super Bowl. If he even gets $50 million it will be a tribute to a great agent. The market is going the other way for quarterbacks. Dak’s deal may represent the high water mark for years.
If Purdy doesn’t get 60 plus million he took a pay cut. He can damn near sign a blank check. 49ers don’t want to get in that market again.

but it could be the difference between signing \ not signing a really good player when he wants a little more than you would have available otherwise.
If you are that close you can figure it out. There are always ways to make things work over a few million a year.

If it wasn’t Jerry someone would’ve given it to him. How many times have we seen an all pro now break the bank coming off all pro year? He got second place how was he not in contention?
Jerry has proven to be an unreliable gauge for what the rest of the league would do. If you haven't noticed, QB's aren't getting the next level contract offers this year. Certainly not for a QB coming off another injury.

The MVP fallacy has been explained to death so I'm not going to repeat.

Apparently no one told him about the fraternity
If I remember correctly didn't Dak say something that it was his obligation to make as much as he can to help the rest of the QBs in the league to get there bag?
I guess Josh didn't get the memo

5 million doesn't give you much in todays nfl. Either a prime jag or what used to be a good player on the wrong side of 30 and on the decline.
it’s not 5 mil in a vacuum though. they might have 10 in space without it and then have 15 etc.

The “market” is not $60 million AAV. I guess if he signs for $10 million less per season than Dak he’ll be considered the ultimate team player. Cowboys fans want other teams to sign their QB for $60 million per season to ease their pain over Dak’s deal.

the niners are the one team that’s more than likely to go back into the market. they’ve had high level success with 3 different non top ten guys. team had their worst season in purdys contract year, and we’re seeing a journeyman resurgence. i don’t think purdy has anywhere near a blank check or leverage.

Forget the MVP thing. Emotions aside when has an All Pro not reset the market? Truly asking.

I would never do it. 5 million gets you nothing……5 million can’t even give you Rico Dowdle. Dak did what was best for the players not the Cowboys. Josh Allen is enabling his teams crappy mismanagement of the cap. He take less and they make him work harder.
it’s even more than 5 mil because he could’ve easily pressed to top daks deal, but that’s besides the point. and it’s not “for the players” it’s for the qbs, who already are the most outsized players in sports.
