Perhaps, but what was the penalty handed down to guys like Vick and Stallworth? I honestly don't remember, and I wouldn't think it would be any worse. Of course, he did have the marijuana charge after that, so that might factor in. Regardless, when you look at who the Cowboys have on their roster right now, what chances does a rotational player, who hasn't played in over a year, realistically have of making the team? Sure, there are a lot of question marks on that DL right now, but is Brent any better than what we have at this point?

Iirc Vick was suspended indefinitely before he went to prison and had to petition Goodell for reinstatement after his release and Stallworth was suspended for a year

What would be leaving out a pretty major part.

Yes it is. Just my personal opinion, but getting behind the wheel while intoxicated was the big issue. What took place after that could have happened to anyone who puts themselves in that position.

Im going to try and make this my last comments on the matter as one this is a football forum, and two, people (understandably) get very emotional over this issue. I haven't for a few years now, and hope to never drive intoxicated again. I have done it though, and struggle to hold a grudge against Mr. Brent. I don't feel like I can point a finger at him while I and many others on Cowboyszone i'm sure have been one second too long to react, or a couple more MPH around a sharp curve from being right in his shoes. I don't for one second support what he did. But if we are going to not forgive Josh Brent, I fail to see how we can forgive any other person who has driven after a couple tall ones.

When it comes to mistakes, all things are relative. Maybe people on this forum have never driven while intoxicated, but that doesn't mean they have never done something stupid that they wish they could take back. We're human - mistakes are a big part of life; some consequences are more severe than others. But it's how we learn from our mistakes that separate us from each other and no one here is in a position to judge who he is today, for the exception of the guy he shared a bunk bed with in jail. Beyond that, you are clueless and have absolutely no right to throw stones.

Nobody gives a damn about this guys personal life and if you say you do, you are lying. The guy can help us, bring him in.

NFL network is reporting he plans to retire.

I thought he already retired, but would have to formally ask for reinstatement to return.
It wouldn't all at surprise if he's done.

Well, then I would imagine it would be unlikely he sees the field this year - IF he even makes the team.

I would hate to cut a promising rookie to give brent a roster spot. Not saying he doesn't deserve a second chance, but it doesn't need to have the star on it.

I don't know Josh Brent but if he is truly looking to change then I hope someone gives him another chance.

I get the feeling he is not though.

Yep. Stallworth got a year.

This isn't the first problem from Brent either.

He got a DUI in college. He didn't learn from that one.

He got busted for failing a drug test AFTER the incident that killed his friend, while he was waiting for the trial.

This guy has a history of being an idiot. Flat out an idiot.

Even if he decides not to retire they're not going to let him play this year. He'll get a league suspension and he should get one.

Playing in the NFL isn't a right.

If he was truly repentant, and wanted to focus himself in a new way, then I'd say he deserves a second chance because his actions were malicious by design. And in this league, sadly, his actions were commonplace, tragedy aside.

However, I think this guy will find a 12-pack the first chance he gets. That's his history.
