So still waiting for Brent, Smith, & Isray...
Why is it unacceptable? The guy has gotten into the same trouble at two colleges and now in the NFL. I think the players and owners will eventually look to revamp their marijuana policies and maybe even during the next round of collective bargaining. For now Gordon knows the risks of smoking weed and he put himself in these positions time and time again. The rules are written out so clearly that a child could have issued this suspension. "Hey, kid. When you see a players name along with the words 'failed test #4' then you have to suspend him for a year". Kid, "Okay".
Then ban him from the league. Dont drag out the process so you impact multiple seasons. If you want to do that, ban him for multiple seasons.
Those same rules stipulate that the decision on appeal is to be made in a "reasonable time". This was not reasonable by any stretch.
Believe it or not, the NFL doesn't care about your timeframe for what is "reasonable".
Because some people judge the substance abuse policy as irrelevant. Dismissing the policy, which every player is aware of, is the only way to justify Gordon's non-compliance. He could continue violating the policy, but the argument will not change. Meanwhile, other players do their jobs without breaking any policy rules. Why can't people seem to grasp that this is a third offense and the punishment reflects that?
I hope one day the NFL can adopt the NBA's policy and not test for stuff as silly as weed.
Weed is harmless.
It may be but then again if it was no big deal why the hell would a player risk his career and millions in cash over something that is no big deal. Heck where I work we are tested as well and can cost your job if you test positive and we are not getting paid any where close to what these guys get. Silly? what is silly is flushing your career over weed.
I also agree with this. The policy is stupid but the players all signed up for it. Gordon needs to be smarter.
But let's save the suspensions for incidents of real consequence, though.
Just doesn't seem right that Ray Rice beating up his girlfriend gets him 2 games and Gordon having a small amount of weed in his system gets him a full year.
