Joyner - The case for drafting Bridgewater....

I think the yards per attempt help Bridgewater in a big way. The only thing you have to worry about this kid is his height/hand size.

at 6' 3" you dont really worry about his height.

only thing to worry is his weight...and thats just from the standpoint to be able to absorb some hits better.

Sorry I thought he came in shorter than that. Combine has him listed at 6' 2"

Teddy Bridgwater is 6'2" 214 lbs. and I think there is much more to worry about with him then just his size but that's just my opinion.

By and large, many NFL execs are traditionalists. Even when Roethlisberger kept wearing the glove in warm weather it was questioned.

Simms' observation was that the glove allows Bridgewater to grip the ball better and put more spin on it. It was an interesting observation that nobody else has made.

Even if it was 100% accurate, what difference would it make? So long as he can wear gloves in a game, why the hell does it matter? Cleats let players cut on a dime and gain traction. Phil gonna start advocating for a barefoot 40 yard dash?

Very easily.

Look at former Kentucky QB Andre Woodson.

He was completing a very high percentage of passes. But, if you looked at him in games he was throwing screen passes almost exclusively.

I don't think Bridgewater was doing that. But, in today's college game completion percentage can be skewed. And I know that the scouts are more interested in their completion % based on how far the ball traveled in the air.

YR

Byron Leftwich threw for 67% completion in his final two years at Marshall and he never really worked out.
Tim Couch threw for 72% completion at Kentucky and he was a bust.
Colt Brennan threw for over 70% completion over his entire college career and he amounted to not much.
Colt McCoy threw for over 70% completion percentage his entire college career and he looks as if he's not going to be a star either.
Kellen Moore.....
Graham Harrell.......
Casey Kennum........

They all threw for over 69% for their entire college careers and none of them were stars.

Brandon Weeden threw for 72.4% his Senior year and 69.5% for his career but does anbody here think he's going to be the starter?

Extremely high completion percentage is not a really good indicator of success in the NFL. In fact, of the top 20 career completion percentage QBs in College Football history, only Sam Bradford, Geno Smith and RG3 were starters and of those, can anybody really say that they think any of those guys are going to be HOFers or even really good starters at this point? Another thing to keep in mind. Of the top 20 Career Completion leaders in College Football, all but three have posted those numbers in the last 10 years. Is that more an indication of the Offense in todays game or is that more of an indication on how good these QBs actually are?

I don't know that I believe this or not. I mean, yeah, it probably does help him but I don't know that it will help him in the Pro's. The ball is different in the NFL. You never really know if that will make a difference or not. Either way, bigger hands are better. Makes it easier to throw from different platforms, allows you to use a more compact delivery so fewer things to break down and it allows for better ball security IMO.

IDK.

No you don't. If you don't think he is a good fit for your team, no matter what other people think his talent is, then you don't take him and let him continue to slide. He is NOT worth a 1st rnd pick. If this was a typical year for qb talent, he wouldn't be in the top 5 and I'm not entirely sure that he is in the top 3 this year. He has a tiny frame and no matter what you think of his "accuracy" it's a huge concern. He doesn't have top flight arm strength and his size will get him killed at this level. He isn't playing against 215 lb linebackers and 250 lb dlinemen. He will be going against the best college football has to offer at every position. DO NOT TAKE HIM AT ALL!!!!

..........agree: BIG time
