Juice fasting

The 3rd day needed a handful of grapes to take the edge off, but it hasn't been too bad. Still got a few more hours to go though. :)

Yeah, even if you have to eat a handful of nuts. I recommend fruit first, or i have munched on carrots. So, not really a fast technically. But it's working.

In terms of weight I am down from 215 to 195. So down 20Lbs in a month or so. I'm not losing as fast as the trucker guy, but I don't have that much more to lose.

I have nothing against using fasting to lose weight, but I would suggest trying to find a way to get some protein in your diet while you do it. Losing 20 pounds is great, but if 10 of it is lean muscle mass you're not going to be better off after.

Also, I would caution against getting too excited about large amounts of weight loss in a short time fasting, because a ton of it will just be water weight that you will put back on when/if you start eating a lot of carbs again. I'm a fairly lean guy, but I will lose 3 to 5 pounds in a day or two if I cut out carbs.

Cucumbers and broccoli have some protein and they've been a pretty central ingredient in my juicing thus far. Now, I know it's not a ton, but I am getting some. Once I'm a couple of weeks in, I'll probably add more protein sources, but keep the same raw thing going with nuts, legumes, etc added in.

Anyway, this is my 4th day and I'm thinking I might be getting over the hump a little. The overwhelming urge to eat the dogfood sitting in the closet is fading. :D

I don't see how you can juice fast for that long and i've gone on some crazy long diets before but nothing outside of liquid would be terrible.

Plus no protein? Goodbye muscle.

To the contrary, I'm gaining mass just by going to the gym. Again, I'm not starving my body of protein. I'm just drinking it. Almost everything I drink has some protein. Not to mention, I'm going 10 days and then I can start munching on avocado and nuts and stuff.

It's really not that bad. The juice gives you this energy and really I thought I would stop today because I get crabby the first couple of days. But that's not happening anymore. I'm on top of my school and I'm making time to work out at the gym as well.

You couldnt be getting more than 15-20 grams of protein a day.

If your gaining mass then thats shocking.

Your probably just losing fat and you can see your muscle better.

Has your strength gone up?

I don't worry about it. Yes I am gaining strength, but I just do light weight reps and some cycling..I have plenty of fat that seems to be turning into muscle.

I am more worried about other things than losing muscle, but I don't think I'm losing muscle.

Question, and I'm not just trying to be funny. But does juice fasting give you the runs? If so, that may be enough to keep me from doing it.

It hasn't me. I dunno about others though.

Day 5 starts today. I did munch on some broccoli and carrots yesterday though. So, it wasn't really just juice. Still though, I'm feeling pretty good and starting to not crave stuff as much.

The first couple of days, yeah. But I have issues anyway. After that, the "issues" improved. So it's not like drinking laxatives or anything. And you should be ok. Try it over the weekend and see how it goes.

And so begins day 6.

Today, I'm going to try that mango/cucumber/cantaloupe drink you mentioned, CowboyMcCoy. That sounded really good.

And just a running tally of weight loss: 6 pounds down and I didn't lose any the first 3 days so whatever I'm losing, it's come off in the last couple.

I think you'll like that one. I was impressed by the flavor because even though I like the taste of juice, it's not quite what I'm accustomed to.

I'm shooting for 185-190lb and then I'm going to eat again. Then "fast" again. I have, like you, eaten a few veggies here and there. For some reason I like carrots, so I chomp on a few of those. I'm not sure if that's still detoxing and stuff, but it's not eating macro-nutrients..so that's what I'm really shooting for at the moment. The mango and cantaloupe seems to give you a good vitamin rush. I was laying off fruits, but I'm going to run for some produce.

Has anyone tried this? I've been on a fast on and off for about a couple of weeks. I've lost 16 lbs. And I feel great. My GI dr. said my colonoscopy looked great and he didn't see any inflammation at all. I go for a follow up and and xray but it's looking pretty good in terms of the worst case scenarios being ruled out.

I'm not saying juice fasting did this at all. But I am saying that my symptoms are almost all gone and I look and feel much healthier.

Anyone have any experience with juice fasting?

No experience but I assume that you will have to eat sooner or later so what will happen then?

The idea is to go on a mainly raw food diet, where you eat mostly raw fruits, nuts, veggies and legumes. I guess you could say the idea would be not to make the choices I made before.

There really is something, to me at least, about overdoing the american diet. I was looking at a lot of people today and not judging. But it's alarming how much our food industry costs our health care industry. Not only this, but until I start eating the fast food and pizzas, chinese food..etc. I won't have the cravings for them as much. Granted, you still get hungry. But it's been proven that a lot of additives in food actually increase your cravings. For me, I just want off all the pills I need to function. Surely, going to the gym and eating micro-nutrients won't hurt me. I've become a lot more educated on nutrition too and I think that's a good thing.

Tried the mango/cantaloupe juice. Dang, that's delicious. It's a lot of work getting the mangos prepared though. :D

Mangos: half them lengthwise, score them in a hatch pattern, and then invert them so the skin is on the concave side. Then, just scrape of the fruit-meat.
