Problem with JJ was that he took too much of what BP said seriously.

I think what happened to Julius was 1) he bulked up too much in his upper body and never got his balance back that he had as a fairly skinny rookie; 2) BP got into his head (Remember BP's "Robo Back" comment) and he quit trying to find holes like he did as a rookie; 3) he did not have the absolute fire you need to really overcome all obstacles- he has always been very quiet and passive.

You could have saved yourself all that typing by just saying "Eh . . . he wasn't that great to begin with."

That said . . . not suprising, considering what a huge JuJo homer you were back in the day on a few other forums.

Let me ask you . . . how much does it suck to spend countless hours and posts arguing definitively about how great a player is, despite the evidence in front of you, only to find out just a few years down the road you were wrong?

Did anyone see Jim Mora on NFL Network talking about the Seahawks draft? He gave the credit for taking ET and Okung, and even trading for Leon Washington and LenDale White. But then he said, they also have Justin Forsett and Julius Jones, and he thinks that both of those guys can get the job done. I thought, "and that's why you are on the NFL Network and Pete Carroll is the head coach at Seattle."

Big Bill did great things for this team, but passing on Steven Jackson for Jones was one of his biggest misses.

:banghead:

Thank Goodness Jerry Jones learned from that and later saved Parcells from drafting Spears over Ware like he wanted to. Had we done that someone else wouldve snatched Ware up.

No surprise:

Julius Jones was reportedly on the trade block during the draft.
It's believed he's still available. Unfortunately, the Seahawks aren't going to get anything for him, and he's probably going to end up released. Seattle acquired Leon Washington and LenDale White on draft day, and will bring back third-down specialist Justin Forsett. White looks to be the favorite for carries in this backfield, though Forsett should be heavily involved. Apr. 25 - 11:10 pm et

I remember when so many cowboy fans were saying he was the next Emmitt smith, introduced as the great Julius Jones at an event and Parcells telling everyone that it''s far too soon to put that label on him, boy Parcells was right on about that, turned out to be the next Troy Hambrick.

Why do so many cowboy fans always think the backup is always the best option.

Seeing it now with Barber, he was the next great back, now people want him traded or put him back in his previous role as the short yardage back or forth quarter finisher.

What's next, we should trade for Julius Jones.....LOL!!!!!!!!!

As pointed out here...the pick was Kevin Jones...he had a better grades on the board at the time than Jackson....both players had first round grades...in the 2nd round we had Julius and Perry (Michigan). Maurice convinced Bill that there wasn't much difference between the 1st round backs and the 2nd round ones...our doctors at the time didn't like the report of Jackson's back...thus the pick was made...I read where we were called marons? The deal did get us DeMarcus Ware and the current backs were added down the road...I have been called worse before...(smile on my face)

:laugh2: Bryan, how did you guys mask your concerns so well from the media with Jackson? I remember when he fell to the Dallas pick, the espn talking heads were instantly talking up Jackson as the Dallas pick. They seemed to be just as shocked as I was.

That particular pick turned into Spears, but chances are if we hadn't had that second pick we would have taken Spears at 11 instead of Ware.

The selection was for Spears but you are right...if we didn't have the two selections were probably would have ended up taking Spears...Bill wanted us to take Spears at 11...but with the two selections...it made it easier for us to try and grab both players...

Its widely reported Parcells wanted to drafted Spears before Ware (or Merriman). Had we had only 1 first rd pick, Parcells probably would have insisted on Spears, and we'd have never got Ware. Supposedly Jones was able to convince Parcells to take Ware first because he (and the rest of the front office) believed they could still get Spears with the other pick. As it turned out they reportedly tried to trade up numerous times after taking Ware to get Spears, then had Spears fall in their lap anyway.

So technically the pick was Spears, but if we hadnt had 2 firsts, we'd have lost Ware.

Ware >>>>>>>>>> Jackson

Its also been widely reported that by draft day it was realized that either Ware or Merriman had to be taken at the 11 spot and to wait and hope to get Spears at 20. Then it came down to Ware vs Merriman.

I realize that had we not traded out of that spot, then yeah we might not have gotten Ware.

That notwithstanding . . . it doesn't excuse the original problem. That being we had two very mediocre backs rated higher than the hands down best back in the draft.
