I don't know. I'm still not sold on JJ. Everyone says that he has break away speed and that may be true but other than LT, most teams don't have that "break away" running back starting. I think too much is made about break away speed. Especially if an opposing defense is stopping your running game. Sometimes you need a running back that can enforce his will regardless if the defender is in a postion to make a tackle. That's what I saw from MB last year.

I like Barber and all of the other skills he brings to the table. What he doesn't have in speed, he has in versatlity.

good point, but JJ holds 3 of the top-5 single-game, rushing performances in Cowboy's histroy, I dont' see Barber with that type of ability, and thus, I think Julius should be the starter...when healthy, and Parcells will probably side with me on this issue

I have a feeling Julius will get hurt, yet again..... so far he cant play a full season....
The injury he had last year was a pretty fluke deal you have to admit.

I'd rather have Barber. Julius can't break tackles well enough to be able to consistently get good yardage. As fast as Julius is, he still gets caught from behind. And as far as the passing game is concerned, Julius isn't in the same league is Barber.

Give me the guy that does everything well, not the one who can pick up an extra 10 yards on a long run.

Yeah, Julius Jones sure did look great last year....... for one game.

Besides that he was anything but that.

Hi SIF. Good point. However, didn't most of those record breaking games come in his first year? We all went crazy over that. However, this season will tell just how good J.J. actually is (baring injury) as the league has footage on his tendencies by now. It would be silly to throw him to the dogs just yet which is why I said that I am not sold on him but I will say that Marion Barber runs with more purpose and looks like the ground is the last place he wants to wind up.

MB may not be as fast as JJ but neither is S. Alexander, Larry Johnson, Tiki Barber, E. James, Emmitt Smith etc. In addition, all of these runners have more in common with MB's style than JJ's and I don't think that many of us would pass on any of the above runners for JJ and his threat of a home run at any given time.

Atts YDS avg. lng td's fum lst
Julius Jones 257 993 3.9 51 5 4 2
Marion Barber 138 538 3.9 28 5 3 0

In almost half the attempts MB looks to be right on pace with every total of JJ's except fumbles lost and the long run. It's not conclusive but it sure is interesting. I just don't think that JJ is all that much better than MB at this point and minus a long run or two in a game, he doesn't show much in heart and power when running. They are different runners but within the game MB just brings more in power and flexibility in terms of options.

Time will tell.

MB just does not make D's plan for him. JJ does. That alone is a huge advantage for our O. Despite the desperate attempts by his fans, MB is just a good back nothing more. JJ- WHEN HEALTHY- can take it to the house any time (MB can't) and forces the D to account for him on every play (MB doesn't). Just the facts.

1 came this year, that 198 yard performance against the Panthers

I'm just using his top games as a example of the type of back that Julius is, one that will win games for you with huge games, I don't see MB with that type of potential, but you're right, time will tell, but the time that we have, Julius showed more in his rookie year, than MB did in his rookie year

Jones if healthy. I hate it when fans call him soft. Injury prone maybe, but the dude is not soft. I really hope he has better luck next year.
