Just a random thought about Spencer

Forget free agency. Forget the draft...

Are y'all as happy as I am about Spencer's emergence? Imagine what it's going to be like for a full season next year with Ware and him?! At the end of last year there was literally fear in the opposing quarterbacks eyes. We had the fiercest pass rush the last five games or so of the season.

It just makes me giddy.

What makes me the most giddy is that his game against Minnesota was better than any game Ware's ever played for the Cowboys.

That's a bold statement but if you don't believe, just watch the game again and focus on him throughout the game. It was like he was possessed. He kept trash talking, getting in their faces, but more importantly, making plays at the line.

I haven't seen anything like it from a defensive end/OLB. Shincoe, Kleinsasser and their full back were just shaking their head the whole game about how they couldn't stop him. There were at least 4 holds on him that weren't called.

If they stay healthy CB Mike should be double digit sacks for both. I still say Jason Williams looks like he was born to blitz from the middle.

Just my opinion but stats aside, put both of those games on and Spencer was more consistently dominant through out game.

There were way more holds than that the entire game on both OLBs, and Ratliff. They were penetrating around the edge consistently on every play and getting held every time. No call. Same with Ratliff up the middle a few times.

Spencer definetely was a beast against Minny.

If he played with that much fire and emotion he would be unstopable.

Absolutely.

And I agree with newnation that for the last quarter of the season, Spencer was better than Ware. As amazing as it is, I think it's true.

(But then I also think Ware was banged up more than we knew and wasn't himself all season long.)

And in 2008, we had the fiercest pass rush at the end of the year too.

What you did the year before doesn't mean much in today's NFL.

We need to improve in our ability to get to the quarterback -- it's the staple of our defense.

Dude I love some Anthony Spencer too, and I told people from the get go to give him time and he would get going (there was a "cut/trade/bench Spencer" crowd in like Week 2)...

...but you're smoking cocaine of the crack variety :D DeMarcus Ware is the standard!

Oh I totally agree bud. I still think Ware is the standard. My point is, we have a right to be excited about Spencer and Ware. They compliment eachother. Very well.

I loved Spencer's play late last season, but the notion that he outplayed Ware is borderline insanity.

Ware frees up Spencer...not the other way around.

...and Spencer has never dominated a game like Ware. Even in the timeframe that you say Spencer outplayed Ware, there was a game that Ware basically took over....against and undefeated Saints team. We lose that game without Ware, and our season would have been in jeopardy of collapse.

Ware > Spencer

Fact.

I hope Spencer continues to bring it like he did late last year though....the two of them on the bookends is a good thing for sure.

I'm talking about one game. Go back and watch it. The second half of the season, he played better than Ware, like chocolab already said, but Ware was banged up.

I'm just saying, since Ware's been here, he hasn't consistently dominated a single game the way Spencer did against Minnesota. Just go back and watch the game before you reply.

Yes, he has.

...and he does so while being double and triple teamed....and freeing up Spencer in the process. Spencer's job is FAR easier than Ware's.

Agree 100%. It's going to be a vicious combo for years.

You people were obviously not paying attention to the early games of 2009 when Spencer could not register a single sack and boatloads of Cowboys fans wanted Ellis back or him gone. Premature evaluation struck again.

Do you even have any idea what you're talking about?

I'm talking mostly about the battle at the LOS and mostly in the run game. Minnesota ran the ball 30+ times in that game- more than they passed. When've you ever seen Ware get double teamed in the run game? Our NT gets a double or one of the DEs, and every now and then both a DE and a NT gets doubled on the same running play. How's Ware freeing up Spencer? They both either take on a TE or tackle on each running play.

And you'd be surprised to know that there were a few times last year that Spencer was double team during a pass rush and Ware wasn't. If you don't go back and watch the games, then I have nothing more to say to you.

I can live with that....and I'll enjoy knowing that you're obviously not capable of a rational discussion.

From this post, I get:

1. I know nothing about football because I don't agree with you. (Interesting logic you have there)

2. Ware is never double teamed on run plays.

3. NT's and DE's are the only players to ever be double teamed or chipped on running plays.

4. Ware doesn't free up Spencer.

5. The only players Ware and Spencer come into contact with are DT's and TE's.

6. There were times that Spencer was double teamed as well. (astounding observation!)

7. If I don't go back and watch the games to see what is painfully obvious to most football fans, then you won't talk to me anymore. :(

8. You're superior knowledge of football is not to be questioned.

9. You have sand in your ******.

What scares me though is that we have no one ready to step up and replace either one of them if they get hurt. As much as Butler was able to make three really good plays, I was very disappointed in his play when he got a chance to play in the regular defense for extended time.
