Just CHILL: Jerry Jones says players should be nervous as changes are coming but not at receiver with Roy Williams

Clarence Hill

Just talked to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and I'm working on a full story but here are the headlines.

Jones said the Cowboys would be mistaken to think their playoff win means they are getting close to the top. He said the blowout loss to Minnesota means they have a long way to go.

So he wants them as scared, uncomfortable and nervous going into the offseason as they were last year and thus said personnel changes are coming.
He said especially look for changes on the offensive line, defensive line and possibly safety.

Of course he also all but guaranteed a starter job for receiver Roy Williams.
As far as the draft is concerned, he said the Cowboys will target every position for their first round pick except for quarterback.

If true:bang2:

If true, it also contradicts the report on what Wade said about this issue yesterday or the day before, double:bang2:

So take the best player on the board with the first pick - sounds good to me.

I think Rolle has alot of soul searching to do when he goes into FA. Dallas is not going to break the bank on him but they are not going to short change him either. Dallas has to offer him an outstanding set of coaches, potential to elevate his game, and a good shot at a SB(s).

If he choses to take the money instead he may go to a team that is barely a contender. If he choses the latter then we know right away he is not a good fit here.

Wow, we all thought maybe safety and OL for depth, but DL?

Verrry interesting....

Good stuff, Clarence Hill.

Hmmm...interesting that Jerry says to look for changes along the DLine. They were hardly a dominant group but they generally did a good job occupying blockers and stuffing the run, which are their 2 main jobs as 3-4 linemen.

I cant see what this means other than Spears not getting re-signed. Obviously Rat's going nowhere and Igor was a solid addition at DE. So probably Spears is a goner. Hatcher could be with him.

I have been saying it for a week now.

These guys at DE don't create enough havoc.

I think either Spears or Hatcher is a goner.

Let's not forget the LBs, as games wore on in the 4th quarter you could see Spencer and Ware get gassed and were not quite effective. A good rotation throughout the game will allow the D to be truly elite. Just look at how Ware performed against NO when he just rushed on passing downs.

Spears was ok this year but didn't command two guys to block him. I believe Jerry is trusting Wade more because he able to bring in Igor for a fraction of the price and performed pretty solid this year. This DEs just need to be space eaters to free up the OLBs to rush the passer or pursue the runner.

no one expects 3-4 DE's to wreck havoc- you can count on the fingers of one hand those that do in the NFL. We are extremely fortunate in what we have at NT with the Rat. There job is to mainly tie up the O Line so that the LBs can make the plays. Anyone thinking they can get anything dramatically better then what we have are dreaming or smoking or both.

I was surprised to read DL as well.

Maybe targeting another 34 DE?

I agree. That's what makes this comment from Jerry somewhat of a head-scratcher. I thought our 3 DL performed well for the most part.

I think they would still tender both those guys this year though.

Maybe keep an eye out for guys like Alex Carrington as a 34 DE or Odrick.

We haven't taken a DL since Wade got here. I've been thinking we will eventually... Maybe this year.

I have to wonder if Wade isn't that sold on Spears. I kind of doubt Jerry was talking only about the backups.

They probably would like a better pocket pusher at DE. That would help Ware and Spencer a lot.

Too many times I saw QBs step up in the pocket and out of the way of Spencer and Ware.

What a loser mentality.

The same guy that wants to know if Rolle can "QB" the secondary (which is coachable) and if he can't then he wouldn't outperform Hamlin and Dallas shouldn't waste their time.
